DAYTON -- The University of Dayton baseball team earned a pair of wins and pushed its win streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep of Massachusetts on Friday afternoon. Dayton has now won five straight games and has a record of 13-11-1 (4-1 A-10), while Massachusetts is now 4-15 (0-5 A-10) on the season. The five-game winning streak is the first for the Flyers since they won six in a row back in May of 2012.
GAME ONE
DAYTON 6, UMASS 0
KEY MOMENT
With a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth,
Riley Tirotta and
Eddie Pursinger hit back-to-back singles with two outs, then
Michael Cleary cleared the bases with a three-run home run to push Dayton's lead to four.
Hunter Wolfe (7.0 IP) and
Justin Longbrake (2.0) combined to throw a shutout to keep UMass off the board and from threatening the Flyer lead.
SCORING SUMMARY

Riley Tirotta reached on an error by the center fielder, then advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Eddie Pursinger took advantage by driving a single to center, which was enough to send Tirotta across the plate.

Connor Wilson pinch ran at first base and moved up to third on a
Riley Tirotta single before eventually scoring on a wild pitch.
Michael Cleary then ripped a double down the right field line for his fourth RBI of the day, driving in Tirotta.
GAME TWO
DAYTON 11, UMASS 2
KEY MOMENT
After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the second inning, Dayton rebounded with a six-run inning of its own in the bottom half of the frame.
Eddie Pursinger opened the inning with a single through the right side and
Michael Cleary immediately followed with a walk to put another baserunner aboard.
Benjamin Blackwell kicked off the scoring with a double down the right field line to send home Pursinger and a
Mitchell Garrity sacrifice fly on the next at-bat tied up the game at two apiece.
Takahiro Yamada was hit by a pitch, then
Connor Echols recorded his team-high seventh double of the season to plate Blackwell and put Yamada on third. Yamada would score when
Jay Curtis reached on an error, while Echols scored on a wild pitch. Curtis would also come around to score in the inning on a Riley Triotta double off the wall in right.
Corey Imbriano and
Tyler Henry combined for 7.2 innings of relief, allowing just two hits in that timeframe to shut down the Minutemen the rest of the way.

Consecutive singles to open the inning put a run on the board for Massachusetts and after a walk and a sac bunt, the Minutemen had runners on second and third with just one out. Thomas Pipolo picked up an RBI single through the left side, but
Corey Imbriano came out of the bullpen after Pipolo's base hit and got Dayton out of the inning with no additional damage done.

Jay Curtis opened the inning with a solo shot to left field for his second home run of the season.
Bottom 8: Dayton 11, UMass 2
Mitchell Garrity doubled down the line to open the inning and
Connor Echols drove him in with a single of the middle. Another single from
Jay Curtis placed runners at the corners for Dayton and
Riley Tirotta sent Echols and Curtis both home with another double off the wall.
