#UDWBB Wins First Round Game Over La Salle

The Flyers Advanced To The A-10 Quarterfinals

DAYTON –The University of Dayton women's basketball blew past La Salle on Tuesday, 65-38 to advance to the quarterfinals in the A-10 tournament.
 
The Flyers (16-12, 11-6 A-10) advance to the quarterfinals in the A-10 tournament while La Salle drops to 6-25 (3-14 A-10)
 
KEY MOMENT
4th Quarter – In transition, Araion Bradshaw passes it ahead to Jayla Scaife who gets the layup and the foul giving the Flyers a 52-35 lead with 6:56 left.
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1ST Quarter: Dayton 12, La Salle 7 
 
  • Lauren Cannatelli opened the scoring with a three, giving the Flyers the first lead of the night.
  • The Flyers defense held La Salle to 1-5 shooting throughout the first six minutes.
  • Cannatelli leading the Flyers with two three-pointers and eight points.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 30, La Salle 16
  • A jumper by Tiaera Phillips at 6:58 gave the Flyers a 20-9 lead forcing a La Salle timeout.
  • La Salle was help to only 16 points in the half and shot 23% from the field
  • Cannatelli lead the Flyers with 10 points in the first half.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 46, La Salle 31
  • Dayton held its halftime lead steady for most of the quarter.
  • Jayla Scaife hit two free throws with 2:19 left giving Dayton their first 20-point lead of the game.
  • Julia Chandler had six points in the quarter stretching her total to 9 on the day.
  • At the end of the quarter UD was shooting 46% from the field while La Salle was shooting 29%
 
4th Quarter: Dayton 65, La Salle 38
  • The Flyers continued their dominance into the fourth quarter by going on an 8-0 run to take a 55-35 lead with 4:53 left
  • Dayton finished the game on a 18-4 run over the last seven minutes.
  • La Salle only had three field goals and seven points in the fourth quarter.
  • Freshman Kyla Whitehead and Ella Skeens each scored five points in the fourth quarter.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 
  • This was the second time this season the Flyers held an opponent to under 40 points.
  • The Flyers were lead in scoring by Lauren Cannatelli with 13.She was joined in double digits by Chandler (11) and Scaife (10)
  • Bradshaw dished out eight assist which was one short of her career high.
  • Freshmen Amari Davidson scored a career-high four points.
  • All 13 healthy players saw playing time today with 11 of them scoring.

Dayton will play Davidson next in the quarterfinals of the A-10 tournament.  The game will be Friday at 2 pm in Pittsburgh.  The winner of that game will go on to play the winner of the VCU-Saint Joseph's game
