Richmond Takes Series Opener Over #UDBASE

The Flyers Will Take On The Spiders In A Doubleheader Tomorrow, Beginning At 11 a.m

DAYTON -- The University of Dayton baseball team was routed by Richmond on Friday afternoon by a score of 17-5. The Flyers are now 18-15-1 on the season and 7-3 in the Atlantic 10. Richmond improved to 17-13-1 and 4-3 in Atlantic 10 play. For Richmond, Tyler Plantier led the way with three hits and a walk, including a three-run home run, and four RBI. Jack Echols and Connor Wilson each had a hit and RBI for the Flyers, with Wilson hitting a solo home run. The Spiders snapped a four-game losing streak with the win.

KEY MOMENT
In what was an already difficult inning for Flyer pitching, Tyler Plantier hit a three-run home run to put Richmond up 13-2. This marked the eighth, ninth, and tenth runs of the inning, and happened with nobody out.

The first three batters reached for Richmond, the last of which was an RBI single by Tyler Plantier. After a sacrifice fly put runners on first and third, Sage Bruhl scored on a wild pitch.

A wild pitch advanced runners to second and third and a throwing error by Flyer shortstop Brantley Johnson allowed another run to score. Three consecutive hits, a double by Brian Schaub and singles by Jordan Schufeland and Sage Bruhl brought home three more runs. A three-run home run by Tyler Plantier gave Richmond 10 runs in the inning and a second three-run home run by Lee gave the Spiders 13 runs before the Flyers recorded their first out. Mercifully, the inning came to an end without any further scoring.

With two runners on, Justin Cook hit a long single to center, driving in a run.

After Jeff Steuck singled to lead off the inning, Richmond got two outs before Connor Wilson walked. Eddie Pursinger doubled to deep right field to drive home Wilson and Tate Hagan, who had reached on a fielder's choice.
