Box Score Institute, W. Va. -- The University of Dayton women's tennis team concluded its regular season on Friday afternoon with a 4-3 loss on the road to West Virginia State. Injuries continue to hurt Dayton, as the Flyers were forced to default the bottom spot of the lineup in both doubles and singles play once again. The Flyers are 4-20 this season, while West Virginia State improves to 11-4 with the win.
Dayton got off to a strong start by taking the doubles point, which led to a 1-0 Flyer lead.
Emily Zargham and
Kelly Pleiman won 6-4 at the top spot in the lineup, while
Natalie Allen and
Kristina Benjamin earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2.
Singles play was highlighted by a pair of wins in the middle of the lineup, as Allen earned her second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
Mary Brascia also won in straight sets by a score of 7-6, 6-3 at the No.4 spot.
Up next on the docket for the women's tennis team is the Atlantic 10 Championships, which will take place at the USTA National Campus From Apr. 24-27 in Orlando. The Flyers swept George Mason in the opening round of the tournament a season ago before eventually falling to George Washington in the quarterfinals.
