Softball Drops Series Finale at La Salle, 8-7

Blarr and Fitzgerald Knock Out Back-to-Back Home Runs For The Flyers

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Dayton softball team dropped an 8-7 decision Sunday afternoon at La Salle. The Flyers ended the weekend 2-1 against the Explorers to take the Atlantic 10 series win.

Dayton is now 21-20 overall and 8-4 in A-10 action while La Salle ends the weekend with a 9-25 mark for the season and a 2-10 record in league play.

Winning Pitcher: Cailey Joyce (6-10) - Joyce worked the final two innings of the game and was the pitcher of record when La Salle took the final lead. She struck out three and allowed one hit
Losing Pitcher: Jessica Gilliam (9-8) - Gilliam was assigned the loss after facing the final six batters of the game and giving up the winning run

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• 10 - junior Ellie Ziegler was one off her career high with 10 putouts
• 3 - senior Kelly Fitzgerald knocked in three runs as she went 2-for-3 at the plate, including her first home run of the season, and scored two runs for the Flyers

UP NEXT
Dayton is set to play host to first-place Massachusetts this coming weekend. The Flyers and Minutewomen will begin their three-game set on Friday with a single game followed by a doubleheader on Saturday in advance of Easter. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium and admission is free.
