Fairfax, Va. -- The University of Dayton baseball team split a doubleheader with George Mason on Saturday, setting up a series-deciding game on Sunday. The Flyers won the first game by a score of 6-4 before dropping the encore by a 2-0 margin. Dayton is now 21-17-1 and George Mason is 15-22 on the year heading into the rubber match.Â
Dayton scored one run apiece in each of the first five innings in game one to jump out to a 5-1 lead. After two George Mason runs in the bottom of the fifth,
Justin Longbrake came in to relieve starter
Hunter Wolfe and allowed just one hit in four innings of work to earn the save.
Connor Echols had a team-high two RBI and hit his second home run of the season in the win.
Mitchell Garrity also swiped five bags in the first five innings of the game to bring his team-high total to 16 stolen bases on the year.
The Flyers offense struggled to get anything going in game two with just four hits, including two coming from
Michael Cleary.
