#UDBASE Falls 7-6 To Saint Joseph's To Set Up Decisive Game Three

The Game Was Dayton's Third One-Run Loss Of The Week

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team had its series with Saint Joseph's evened on Saturday afternoon at DP&L Stadium after a 7-6 loss to the Hawks. After taking a 6-2 second inning lead, Daytonwas held scoreless the rest of the way, and fell to Saint Joseph's by a score of 7-6. With the win, Saint Joseph's improved to 16-21 on the season and Dayton fell to 23-20-1 with the defeat.
 
KEY MOMENT
After falling behind 6-2 in the second inning, the Hawks slowly cut into the Dayton lead and trailed by one going into the sixth. Matt Cuppari singled and Brendan Hueth doubled with one out and Cuppari scored on a wild pitch. With two outs, Andrew Cossetti singled to left field to give Saint Joseph's the lead.

Mitchell Garrity doubled and then Michael Cleary singled to put runners on the corners to lead off the inning. Connor Echols then singled through the left side to plate Garrity. With two outs, Jay Curtis doubled to drive in two, giving the Flyers a 3-0 lead. On the first pitch of the next at-bat, Benjamin Blackwell singled to center to drive in Curtis, finishing the scoring for the inning.

Top 4: Dayton 4, Saint Joseph's 2.
Saint Joseph's put runners on second and third with one out. A wild pitch scored the lead run to put St. Joe's on the board. An error with two outs scored the second run for the Hawks.

Bottom 2: Dayton 6, Saint Joseph's 2.
With one out, Garrity singled and Cleary walked to put runners on first and second. An infield single by Echols then loaded the bases. Eddie Pursinger walked to score the first run and Riley Tirotta followed with a sacrifice fly to get both runs back in the inning.

After a leadoff double, the Flyers' third error of the game allowed a run to score.

A single and a double led off the inning putting runners on second and third with no outs. The next two hitters followed with a sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout, cutting the Dayton lead to one.

Saint Joseph's took their first lead of the game, starting by putting runners on second and third with one out. A wild pitch tied the game before Tyler Jones retired the next hitter on strikes. With two outs, a single to left plated the second run of the inning.
