#UDBASE Season Ends In Extra Innings Loss To Fordham, 4-3

The Game Was The Longest Championship Game In Atlantic 10 Tournament History

Bronx, N.Y. -- The University of Dayton baseball team fell to Fordham by a score of 4-3 in 12 innings on Saturday afternoon. Dayton finishes the season with a record of 32-26-1, which includes a 16-8 mark in conference play during the regular season. The team's 32 wins are the most for the program since 2011 and the team also made the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the first time since 2014.

Dayton fell into a 3-0 hold early in the game, but battled back with two runs in the seventh inning to cut the lead to just one. With the Flyers still trailing 3-2 and down to their final out in the top of the ninth, Alex Brickman silenced the home crowd at Houlihan Park with a game-tying solo home run to left field, then R.J. Wagner threw a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half of the frame to send the game into extra innings.

The best scoring chance for UD in the extra frames came in the top of the 11th when Tate Hagan reached on a two-out infield single and another single from Alex Brickman gave the Flyers runners at the corners, but a Riley Tirotta groundout to third ended the inning with no runs across the plate.

Hunter Wolfe pitched two innings of scoreless relief to keep the game tied up through 11 innings, then Cole Pletka came into the game for the 12th. Pletka struck out a pair, but Fordham was able to load the bases with two outs on a pair of singles and a walk. The game-winning run came across on another walk to seal the Atlantic 10 title for the Rams.

At the conclusion of the game, the Flyers had four player named to the All-Tournament team, including senior LHP Tyler Henry, junior DH Alex Brickman, junior 1B Eddie Pursinger and 2B Takahiro Yamada. Henry is one of four seniors on the roster for UD, along with two-time team captain OF Connor Echols, captain RHP Ben Hughes and C Bailey Montoya.
