ESTERO, Fla. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team will compete in the 2019 Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla. during Thanksgiving week this upcoming season.

The tournament will be played at Hertz Arena in Estero, Fla. from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.

The Flyers will open the event on Friday, Nov. 29 against Gonzaga at 1:30 p.m. ET. Dayton will then play either Auburn or Middle Tennessee State depending on the outcome of both games.

Other teams and possible opponents in the field include Arizona State, Maine, Drake, and Purdue. Five of the teams in the tournament made the NCAA tournament last season.

The championship game will take place on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

"We entered into the Gulf Coast Showcase because we wanted to be challenged and play some of the top teams in the country," said head coach Shauna Green. "This tournament provides all high level RPI teams that will test us early and will prepare us for the A-10 conference schedule. Gonzaga has an unbelievable program and we are excited about facing off against them in the first round. The next round will be either Auburn or Middle Tennessee State. All of these programs are consistent NCAA tournament teams and will be great competition. They all fit our scheduling philosophy that you have to play the best in order to be the best."

Dayton finished the 2018-19 season 17-14 with a 10-6 Atlantic 10 mark. UD advanced to the semifinals of the A-10 Tournament before earning a berth in the WNIT. The Flyers were 13-1 at home and 2-2 in neutral site games last year.
