Men’s Soccer Falls To UIC In Season Opener

The Flyers Tied The Game In The 88th Minute, Forcing Extra Time

COLUMBUS, Ohio  – The University of Dayton men's soccer team opened the 2019 season Friday night in Columbus, Ohio at the Wolstein Classic, suffering a 3-2 double overtime loss to Illinois Chicago

The Flyers (0-1-0) fought back and tied the game up with just two minutes to play in regulation, but fell to the Flames (1-0-0) in the second overtime.  

KEY STATS
  • UIC scored first in the 18th minute thanks to Alwin Seitz with the assist by Eduardo Garcia.
  • Dayton's Kingsford Adjei answered in the 28th minute with his debut goal for the Flyers.
  • The Flyers were outshot 13-2 in the first half.
  • The Flames took the lead back, 2-1, with a penalty kick in the 57th minute by Josiah Ash.
  • UD senior Rok Taneski converted a penalty of his own in the 88th minute to keep the Flyers' hopes alive.
  • UIC recorded the game winning goal in the 108th minute from Bukola Abdulwahab.
  • The Flyers were outshot overall in the contest 23-10 with a 5-to-8 shots on goal disadvantage.
  • Senior goalkeeper Federico Barrios recorded five saves.
  • Adjei tied junior Jonas Fjeldberg with three shots, two of which were on goal for Fjeldberg.
  • Dayton had 16 different players see action on Friday including four players making their debuts (Kingsford Adjei, Toluwalase Oladeinbo, Xavier Zengue, and Victor Olorunfemi).
