Men's Soccer Hosts NKU Tuesday

The Flyers Have Won Three Of Their Last Four Games

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team returns home to host Northern Kentucky on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.  

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers are riding a two-game winning streak including a victory over No. 20 West Virginia last outing. Dayton is 3-4 on the season and 2-1 at home. The Flyers have also won three of their last four games.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 15th season at the helm of the Flyers, totaling 142 victories, the most in UD history. He leads a veteran squad this season with seven seniors and 10 returning starters.

Overall, Dayton is averaging 1.86 goals per game, which leads the A-10, and is holding opponents to 1.43 goals each contest. The Flyers are being outshot 14.4 to 12.9, but UD has a higher percentage.

The Flyers are led by junior Jonas Fjeldberg and freshman Toluwalase Oladeinbo, who both have four goals apiece. Four players have two assists on the season as well. Senior goalkeeper Federico Barrios has two straight shutouts.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
NORTHERN KENTUCKY

Northern Kentucky is 1-4-1 overall this season and 1-3 in road games. The Norse have lost two straight, both Horizon League matches. Head coach Stu Riddle is in his third season at NKU

As a team, the Norse are scoring just 1.00 goal per game and giving up 1.67 to opponents. NKU is outshooting opposing teams 14.2 to 13.5 and has 12 more corner kick attempts on the year.

NKU is led by Connor Probert and his one goal and three assists on the season. Alex Willis has a team-high two goals as well. Goalkeeper Baj Maan has made all six starts and has 29 saves.

THE SERIES
Dayton and NKU have played four times previously with the Flyers winning three of those contests. The last showdown was in 2017 with UD falling at NKU 1-0.

LAST OUTING
Dayton earned a 2-0 victory over No. 20 West Virginia on Saturday, the 500th win in program history. Wariebi Jituboh scored the game winner in the 65th minute before Oladeinbo doubled the lead two minutes later.

Northern Kentucky suffered a 2-1 loss in conference play on the road at Cleveland State on Saturday. The Norse struck first in the 60th minute, but an overtime golden goal by CSU in the 100th minute handed NKU the defeat.

500 PROGRAM VICTORIES
With a 2-0 victory over No. 20 West Virginia on Sept. 21, Dayton recorded the 500th victory in program history.

BARRIOS NAMED PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE
Senior goalkeeper Federico Barrios was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference team as the lone keeper. The Colombia native led the league in save percentage last season with a .815 mark and totaled a conference-high eight shutouts to go with 53 saves.

BARRIOS NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Dayton goalkeeper Federico Barrios was named All-Tournament team at the Wolstein Classic on Sept. 1 after his performance in the two game stretch. He recorded a career-high nine saves in the contest against CSUN Sunday.

PRESEASON
The Flyers went undefeated in the two exhibition games this year, finishing with a 2-0 win over IUPUI and a 0-0 draw against Bowling Green. Both shutouts took place at home with the Flyers defending Baujan Field.

DAYTON PICKED TO FINISH 4TH
The Atlantic 10 Conference released its preseason poll and picked the Flyers to finish fourth with 121 points. Dayton was predicted to finish behind favorites VCU (159), Saint Louis (146), and Rhode Island (142).

FLYER SUCCESS
The Dayton men's program has an overall record of 500-424-90 and four NCAA Tournament appearances in its history. The Flyers are also 134-89-26 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and have six conference titles between the regular season and league tournament.

UP NEXT
Dayton remains at home to open Atlantic 10 play Saturday at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field against Massachusetts.

HIGH FIVE
The Flyers scored five goals in their win over Detroit Mercy on Sept. 17 at home. It was the most goals in a game for Dayton since Nov. 1 2017 against George Mason in the season finale at Baujan Field.
