Men's Soccer Opens A-10 Play Saturday With UMass

The Flyers Host The Minutemen At 7 p.m.

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team opens Atlantic 10 play on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. against Massachusetts at Baujan Field.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers are currently on a three-game winning streak with victories of Detroit Mercy, No. 20 West Virginia, and Northern Kentucky, outscoring opponents 10-0 during that stretch. UD is 4-4 on the year and 3-1 at home.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 15th season at the helm of the Flyers, totaling 143 victories, the most in UD history. He leads a veteran squad this season with seven seniors and 10 returning starters.

Overall, Dayton is scoring 2.00 goals per game, which leads the A-10, and is holding opponents to 1.25 each contest. The Flyers our also out-shooting opposing teams at a higher percentage.

The Flyers are led by junior Jonas Fjeldberg and his five goals on the season while freshman Toluwalase Oladeinbo has added four goals in eight starts. Senior goalkeeper Federico Barrios has three shutouts in a row and 26 saves on the year.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
MASSACHUSETTS

Massachusetts enters the conference season with a 4-4 record overall, but unlike the Flyers, the Minutemen are on a three-game losing streak. UMass is 2-3 on the road this season.

As a team, the Minutemen score 1.62 goals per game and allow just 0.62 to opposing squads. UMass is shooting at a .416 shots on goal percentage as well.

Leading the way is Jamie McPherson and Graham Brenner with three goals each. Chandler O'Dwyer is the main contributor with four assists on the year. Goalkeper Marv Dorchin has five goals allowed in eight starts and four shutouts.

THE SERIES
Dayton and UMass have played 23 times previously with the Flyers winning 12 times and the Minutemen winning nine times. In the last meeting in 2018, UD won on the road 2-1.

LAST OUTING
Dayton defeated Northern Kentucky Tuesday for its third straight victory, earning a 3-0 win over the Norse. Fjeldberg, Jacob Degler, and Daniel Dos Santos scored for the Flyers.

UMass suffered a 1-0 loss at Boston College on Tuesday afternoon. The Minutemen gave up the gamewinner in the 48th minute to loss their third straight.

500 PROGRAM VICTORIES
With a 2-0 victory over No. 20 West Virginia on Sept. 21, Dayton recorded the 500th victory in program history.

TANESKI A SENIOR CLASS CANDIDATE
Senior midfielder Rok Taneski was named as a Top 30 Senior CLASS Award candidate this year, the lone selection from the Atlantic 10. The award is given to a male and female athlete that exhibit excellence in community, classroom, character, and competition.

OLADEINBO NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman forward Toluwalase Oladeinbo was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Sept. 23 after scoring three goals during a two game stretch for the Flyers.

BARRIOS NAMED PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE
Senior goalkeeper Federico Barrios was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference team as the lone keeper. The Colombia native led the league in save percentage last season with a .815 mark and totaled a conference-high eight shutouts to go with 53 saves.

BARRIOS NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Dayton goalkeeper Federico Barrios was named All-Tournament team at the Wolstein Classic on Sept. 1 after his performance in the two game stretch. He recorded a career-high nine saves in the contest against CSUN Sunday.

PRESEASON
The Flyers went undefeated in the two exhibition games this year, finishing with a 2-0 win over IUPUI and a 0-0 draw against Bowling Green. Both shutouts took place at home with the Flyers defending Baujan Field.

UP NEXT
Dayton heads back out on the road to take on Marshall on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. ET.

DAYTON PICKED TO FINISH 4TH
The Atlantic 10 Conference released its preseason poll and picked the Flyers to finish fourth with 121 points. Dayton was predicted to finish behind favorites VCU (159), Saint Louis (146), and Rhode Island (142).
