DAYTON– The University of Dayton women's basketball team continued its seven-game winning streak on Sunday with a nail-biting 48-47 win over Saint Louis at home.
The Flyers (12-7, 5-0 A-10) take their 21st win over the Billikens (10-8, 2-3 A-10) and keep their perfect A-10 Conference streak.
KEY MOMENT
4th - 1.1 - SLU's Ciaja Harrison commits a personal foul and brings Erin Whalen to the line to put the Flyers one-point ahead with 1.1 seconds left on the board.
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 12, Saint Louis 14
Flyers start off strong as they win the tip and see the first points on the board as redshirt junior Araion Bradshaw drives to beat the shot clock soon followed by a Erin Whalen field goal 1:10 into the competition.
The Billikens call for the timeout at 4:04 at 7-6, Flyer lead.
The game sees its fourth lead change as senior Jayla Scaife sinks a three-pointer bringing the Flyers up 12-11.
Ending the first quarter, SLU inches ahead with a score of 12-14.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 19, Saint Louis 22
● Dayton's defense held strong into the second quarter, leading to a Billiken scoring drought lasting 2:01 and no made field goals for 5:26
● Dayton limited the Billikens to only 2-of-12 on field goals to end the half, clipping the Billiken lead to 3 at the break.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 40, Saint Louis 27
● The Flyers felt a momentum shift as they tied the game with a made three point play by #22 Jordan Wilmoth to bring the game to 24-24 with 6:48 left in the quarter.
● Flyers took the lead for the fourth time (first since the first quarter) with a strong drive to the basket by redshirt senior Shakeela Fowler followed shortly by redshirt senior Julia Chandler's jumper to bring the score to 28-26.
● Dayton pushed their lead to 30-26 on the scoreboard and 4:04 left on the clock at the first media timeout of the third quarter after making 4 consecutive field goals.
● The Flyers took a stronghold on the game as they gain a 10-0 run over 3:11 on the Billikens.
● By the end of the third quarter, Dayton had taken a significant lead over the Billikens after outscoring them by 16. They carried a 13 point lead into the 4th.
4th Quarter: Dayton 48, Saint Louis 47
● The fourth quarter saw a pushback from SLU, but the Flyers retained a five-point lead at the 6:01 media timeout.
● Whalen led the Flyers in points as she put an end to Billiken streak with a strong drive to the basket and later a free throw to put the score at 45-42 with the Flyers slightly ahead.
● Saint Louis's Chloe Rice puts the Billikens ahead with a three followed by back-to-back free throws, bringing the score to 47-45 with 1:47 left on the clock.
● The fourth quarter saw a tie game at 47-47 with 0:27 left of the game.
● SLU's Ciaja Harrison committed a personal foul, bringing UD's Whalen to the line to put the Flyers one point ahead with 1.6 seconds left on the board.
