Women's Basketball Defeats George Mason, Coach Green Wins 100th

The Flyers Moved To 2-0 In A-10 Play

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's basketball team continued the Atlantic 10 season with a 59-55 win over George Mason at home on Wednesday. The Flyers' head coach Shauna Green reached her 100th career win. 
 
The Flyers (9-7, 2-0 A-10) stay unbeaten in A-1`0 play while the Patriots (7-8, 1-1 A-10) suffer their first league loss.
 
KEY MOMENT
1st – Dayton forced five turnovers in the first quarter and only turned the ball over once in that time. 
 
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 14, George Mason 8
  • Dayton started off strong with three rebounds by Jordan Wilmoth and a three pointer by Araion Bradshaw in the first two minutes. 
  • After trailing 6-5, the Flyers took the lead after a three pointer from Erin Whalen, making the game 8-6 at the first media timeout.
  • George Mason was held scoreless for over four minutes. 
  • The Flyers began to pull away after an even start in the beginning of the 1st quarter. 
  • Dayton held George Mason their third fewest points scored in the last the last 57 quarters played. 
2nd Quarter: Dayton 20, George Mason 18
  • The 2nd quarter started off slow for both teams with no points in the first two and a half minutes. 
  • By the media time-out, the Flyers had a 16-12 lead with 4:39 left in the first half. 
  • The Flyers defense continued to be pivotal, forcing nine turnovers by four minutes left in the quarter. 
  • Both teams went without scoring for over two minutes, broken by foul shots made on both sides.
  • After having fallen behind by one, the Flyers ended the half on a high note with a three point basket by Christine Szabo, allowing them to take the lead over the Patriots at the half.  
3rd Quarter: Dayton 40, George Mason 42
  • The Flyers and the Patriots played a back and forth game for the first few minutes of the second half.
  • Back to back threes from Julia Chandler and Araion Bradshaw brought the Flyers up 34-28. 
  • Midway through the quarter Jordan Wilmoth grabbed her 6th rebound for the Flyers, breaking her season record. 
  • The game was all tied up with 3:51 left in the 3rd quarter. 
  • After a good defensive showing from both sides keeping the game close, the Patriots led 42-40 at the end of the 3rd quarter. 
4th Quarter: Dayton 59, George Mason 55
  • Dayton took the lead at the beginning of the quarter making the game 51-49 with 5:23 left in the match. 
  • Dayton's Erin Whalen scored double digits for the sixth consecutive game. 
  • Defense continued to be the key factor of the game with the Patriots having 21 turnovers and the Flyers having 15. 
  • Dayton was able to keep George Mason from scoring for the last two minutes of the game. 
  • The Flyers were able to clinch the win 59-55 over the Patriots.
