KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced that Anthony Grant and Shaka Smart have accepted invitations to join the NABC Board of Directors.

"I am honored to be selected to the NABC Board and I look forward to working with my fellow Board members on behalf of our student-athletes and fellow coaches to continue to move the game forward," Grant said.

The appointments for the Grant and Smart are effective immediately. 

"Anthony Grant and Shaka Smart are two of college basketball's most respected voices," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "In addition to their success on the court, they have shown a commitment to addressing the issues that impact our game and the coaching profession. They will be valuable additions to the NABC Board of Directors."

Grant enters his fourth season at the helm of his alma mater's men's basketball program riding the wave of the most heralded season in school history.  He guided the Flyers 29-2 to a mark in 2019-20, setting the school record for most wins in a season.  UD won its third Atlantic 10 regular season championship in the last five years, but went undefeated (18-0) in conference play for the first time. 

Grant was the consensus national Coach of the Year, earning that honor from the NABC, the Atlanta Tip-Off Club (Naismith Trophy), the USBWA (Henry Iba Award), the Associated Press, The Sporting News, Fox Sports and CBSsports.com, among others.

In his 12 seasons as a head coach at VCU, Alabama and Dayton, Grant's teams have compiled a 257-141 record (.646).

Smart is beginning his sixth season as head coach of the Texas Longhorns and his 12th season as a Division I head coach.  He got his start in Division I basketball at Dayton on Oliver Purnell's staff in 2001.

Among the current NABC Board of Directors are Tommy Amaker (Harvard), Frank Martin (South Carolina), Bob Huggins (West Virginia) and Pat Estepp (Cedarville).  The current NABC president is Jamie Dixon of TCU.
