DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's basketball team (4-2, 0-1 A-10) fell in its first Atlantic 10 conference game of the season to La Salle University (4-5, 1-1 A-10) Wednesday night at UD Arena by a score of 67-65.
The loss snapped Dayton's 20-game conference winning streak. Freshman
Mustapha Amzil led the Flyers with 22 points in his Dayton debut. It marked the highest point total for a debut game since Marcus Johnson scored 23 against Austin Peay on Nov. 11, 2006. Amzil signed with the Flyers in November, and enrolled at UD following the first semester. He had practiced three times before starting against La Salle.

Jalen Crutcher added 19 points in his 100
th game as a Flyer. Crutcher's first assist also made him the first Flyer in program history to record 1,200 points, 200 made threes, and 500 career assists.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1st half: Dayton 30, La Salle 25
- Graduate student Jordy Tshimanga scored the first four points of the game, part of a 16-2 start to the game for the Flyers over the first 9:45 of the contest.
- Dayton maintained a double-digit lead for much of the first half, trading baskets with the Explorers.
- Starting with 4:09 remaining in the first half, La Salle went on a 9-0 run to cut the Flyer lead to 27-25 with 2:27 remaining in the opening frame.
- Dayton's four-minute scoreless drought ended with a three-point field goal by Amzil, who led the Flyers with seven points in the first half.
- The Flyers made all eight free throws in the first 20 minutes, compared to La Salle shooting 2-of-4 from the charity stripe in the opening half.
- Both teams committed eight turnovers in the first half, while the Flyers led the rebounding battle 17-15.
2nd half: La Salle 67, Dayton 65
- Amzil opened the second half with a basket to extend Dayton's lead to seven on the Flyer's first possession.
- The Explorers chipped away at the Dayton lead until La Salle took its first lead of the game, 40-38 with 16:00 remaining in the second half.
- Dayton responded with an 8-0 run, taking a 46-40 lead with 14:18 remaining in the contest, with six points coming from Crutcher.
- A 7-0 run by La Salle led to the Explorers taking the lead back with12:23 left in the second half.
- The two teams remained close with La Salle leading 60-58 at the under-eight media timeout.
- Down 65-62, Crutcher hit a three to tie the game with 1:16 remaining.
- The Explorers' Clifton Moore made a jumper as the shot clock expired with 2.5 seconds remaining, and La Salle came up with a steal on the Flyer's next possession, clinching the game.
- Crutcher and Amzil scored 25 of the first 28 points in the second half for the Flyers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Flyers had two players score in their Dayton debuts, Amzil with 22 points and freshman Koby Brea with three. Brea missed the first five games of the year with a wrist injury.
- From the 4:27 mark of the first half, to 15:26 left in the second half, Amzil scored 17 consecutive points for the Flyers.
- Both teams shot 46 percent from the field, with La Salle having the advantage from behind the three-point line, making nine triples with the Flyers shooting just 4-of-17 from three.
- Dayton performed well at the free-throw line, sinking of 15-of-18 shots from the charity stripe.
- Redshirt senior Rodney Chatman led both teams with seven assists, while Amzil and redshirt freshman Moulaye Sissoko led the way with seven rebounds each.
