BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team suffered its first loss since Dec. 20 after a 50-38 decision.
The Dayton Flyers (20-8, 13-1 A-10) faced its first conference loss while the Rams (18-9, 10-4 A-10) earned an important league win.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 10, Fordham 5
- Dayton struck first with a jumper by senior Jayla Scaife, the only points of the first 2:30 of the game.
- The Flyers forced five turnovers and held the Rams scoreless over the first 4:48.
- By the media break, UD led Fordham 6-3.
- Redshirt senior Julia Chandler's free throw at the 1:50 mark gave the Flyers their biggest lead at 10-5. That would be the score after the first 10 minutes.
- Jayla Scaife led the way with five points and two boards.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 15, Fordham 24
- Neither team was able to make a dent in the score in the first few minutes of the second.
- Fordham's Kendell Heremaia scored the first 10 points for the Rams and tied the game up at 10-10 with 6:28 on the clock.
- At the media timeout with 4:34 to go, the Flyers had still not scored in the quarter, making it over a seven-minute drought.
- Senior Jenna Giacone ended the skid with a three at the 3:30 mark.
- Fordham was able to get the margin two nine by the end of the half.
- The Flyers shot 25 percent in the first half with eight turnovers while the Rams shot 33 percent with nine turnovers.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 28, Fordham 32
- The Rams got their lead to double digits in the first two minutes of the second half.
- At the 6:03 mark, redshirt junior Erin Whalen hit a three followed by a drive by Giacone to cut the margin to five at 29-24.
- That score held midway through the quarter. Fordham suffered during almost a four-minute scoring drought.
- Another Whalen three cut it to four with 1:45 to go.
- A Brittany Ward-drive made it a one possession game with :47 go to.
4th Quarter: Dayton 38, Fordham 50
- The teams traded buckets back and forth over the first two minutes of the fourth.
- Fordham managed to pull ahead by eight, 42-34 with 6:38 to go.
- Dayton called a timeout at the 6:03 mark facing a seven-point margin.
- The Rams hit a three out of the break thought to get it back to double-digits.
- The Flyers managed to pull with seven and under two minutes to go.
- In the end, fouling was not enough to get Dayton back in the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
