Women’s Basketball Receives A-10 Awards, Green Named Coach Of The Year

Scaife, Whalen, and Bradshaw Picked Up Individual Honors As Well

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced their annual women's basketball end-of-year awards and recognized three University of Dayton student-athletes as well as head coach Shauna Green.

Coach Green took home one of the major awards earning A-10 Coach of the Year honors for the second time in four seasons. A former WBCA National Rookie Coach of the Year, Green led the Flyers to their fifth regular season title overall, third in her tenure, and a 15-1 conference mark.

Senior Jayla Scaife was named First Team All-Conference as well as being selected for the All-Defensive Team. Scaife leads the Flyers with 13.0 points per game to go with 5.6 rebounds each outing. The Muncie, Ind. native is coming off her season-high of 27 points with nine boards in the win at Saint Louis. She was named First Team Preseason All-Conference going into the year and showed why she deserved those honors with 18 double-figure scoring performances and six 20+ point outings. Scaife currently ranks ninth all-time in scoring and 18th in career rebounds in program history. Defensively, she leads the Flyers in blocks and ranks third in steals.

Redshirt junior Erin Whalen was named Second Team All-Conference while also picking up All-Academic accolades. The Charlotte, N.C. native has averaged 12.5 points per game this season while leading the team with 58 made threes. Whalen has 20 double-digit scoring games this year including a season-high 27 points at Central Michigan. She has been just as successful in the classroom while majoring in communications.

Redshirt junior Araion Bradshaw picked up All-Defensive team honors while leading the Flyers with 41 steals in 30 games. Her defensive prowess was highlighted by a career-high six steals in the win at La Salle this season. The Boston native had at least one steal in 22 games this year and her 1.25 steals per game career average is the 14th best mark in program history.

The Flyers open up the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinals Friday at 11 a.m. at UD Arena against Richmond.
