RICHMOND, Ky. - The University of Dayton softball team claimed a 12-8 win over UIC Friday in the Flyers' opening game of the Eastern Kentucky Invitational. Senior
Mallory Kimmell knocked out her first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth inning.
Dayton is now 5-10 on the season while UIC moved to 6-10 overall.

Jessica Weaver (4-2) earned the win in the circle for UD while freshman
Sarah Bailitz collected her first career save.

Dayton continues play at the EKU Invitational Saturday with another match-up against UIC. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at EKU's Gertrude Hood Field. Sunday's schedule has been adjusted to accommodate rescheduling the EKU-UIC game that was originally supposed to take place today. Dayton will play Akron at 12 p.m. and Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. March 8.
