DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team remains on the road to take on George Washington Sunday at 12 p.m. on ESPNU.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers have suffered just one loss since Feb. 22 of last year.
Head coach
Shauna Green is in her fifth season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year last season, her second time at UD.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 64.8 points per game and allowing just 53.2 points to opponents. Dayton is shooting 41.6 percent overall, 30.1 percent from three point range, and 68.9 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers have a +9.0 rebounding margin as well.
Dayton is led by redshirt senior
Erin Whalen with 16.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Fellow senior
Jenna Giacone is adding 9.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per outing and coming off a team-leading performance Friday at Mason.
SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington hosts Dayton with a 3-5 on the year and 0-2 A-10 mark. The Colonials have lost two in a row, but are 3-0 at home this season.
Head coach Jennifer Rizzotti is in her fifth season at GW, but has 21 years of head coaching experience with a previous stint at Hartford as well.
This year, the Colonials are scoring 57.1 points per outing and giving up 60.5 to opposing squads. GW is shooting 35.4 percent from the floor, just 18.7 percent from three, and 70.2 percent from the charity stripe. The Colonials are being outrebounded by -3.3, but have a +2.5 turnover margin.
Leading the Colonials is Neila Luma, with 10.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per gamer, and Ali Brigham, with 10.4 points and 5.0 rebounds each contest.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton defeated George Mason Friday night, 59-37, to stay unbeaten in league play. The Flyers held the Patriots to 21.2 percent from the field while
Jenna Giacone had team-highs with 13 points and eight rebounds.
George Washington suffered a 53-47 loss at Fordham on Jan. 3 in New York. The Colonials only scored eight and six points in the first and third quarters respectively.
THE SERIES
Dayton and George Washington have faced each other 47 times previously with the Colonials leading the series with 33 wins to the Flyers' 14. UD has won three in a row however.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
This season the Flyers rank 10th in the country in field goal percentage defense and 15th in scoring defense. Individually,
Erin Whalen is 35th in the nation in three point field goal percentage.
COOK NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dayton freshman
Makira Cook was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Jan. 4 after averaging 11.0 points and shooting 61.5 percent from the field. She highlighted the week with an 18-point performance against St. Bonaventure.
PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll behind conference favorites VCU and ahead of Saint Louis, Davidson, Duquesne, and Fordham. The Flyers received two first-place votes.

SHORTENED NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
The Flyers only had two non-conference games and no exhibition contests due to COVID concerns. Dayton opened the season at Morehead State on Nov. 25Â with a victory before dropping the home opener to Akron on Dec. 6.
BRADSHAW HELPS START ATHLETES DRIVING CHANGE
Redshirt senior
Araion Bradshaw was one of a few Atlantic 10 women's basketball players to start Athletes Driving Change, a minority female, student-run organization dedicated to racial and social injustice on campuses in the A-10. Their mission is to create change through education, action, and service. Bradshaw also serves on the A-10 Commission on Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
FLYERS SWEEP A-10 TITLES
Last season the Flyers won both the regular season and tournament titles in the Atlantic 10 for the second time in program history, both in Coach Green's tenure. UD earned the No. 1 seed in the A-10 Tournament and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 117 of its last 143 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.816), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.
THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 606 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
OFF TO A HOT START
Dayton has found much success under Coach Green in the month of January, going 31-2 in her first five seasons as head coach of the Flyers. That includes going undefeated in three of the four years before this season.
