Men's Soccer Heads To No. 11 Saint Louis Saturday

Kickoff Is At 8 p.m. ET In St. Louis

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team faces its third ranked team of the season when the Flyers head to No. 11 Saint Louis Saturday for a 8 p.m. ET contest. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the game with a 5-6-2 record overall and a 2-2 Atlantic 10 mark. The Flyers are 1-4 away from home this season, but won at George Washington in its last road game on Oct. 6. UD has won two of its last three contests.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 17th year at the helm of the Flyers and the reigning Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. UD replaces just one starter from last year's team that went on to win the A-10 regular season title with a 4-1-1 conference mark.

As a team, the Flyers are averaging 1.38 goals per game and allowing 1.69 goals to opponents. Dayton is being out-shot 12.6 to 15.1 through 13 games.

Leading the way for the Flyers is senior Kingsford Adjei with four goals and three assists. Junior transfer Forster Ajago has also slotted four goals as well as one assist with junior Jaden Jones-Riley chipping in three goals and two assists as well. Sophomore goalkeeper Marc Kouadio has 58 saves and all 13 starts between the posts.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
SAINT LOUIS

Saint Louis hosts Dayton as the No. 11 ranked team in the country and has a 9-0-3 record on the season. The Billikens are undefeated in A-10 play with a 5-0 record so far this year, leading the league standings.  

Head coach Kevin Kalish is in his fourth season with the Billikens and has 83 victories in his nine years of head coaching experience.

As a team, SLU is scoring 2.50 goals each outing and stifling opposing teams to just 0.83 goals per contest. The Billikens rank seventh in the nation in goal differential, third in shots on goal per game, and ninth in total points.

Saint Louis is led by reigning A-10 Offensive Player of the Week Simon Becher, who ranks eighth in Division I with 21 points on eight goals and seven assists. John Klein leads the country in assists with 12 on the year while Kevin Komodi and Mujeeb Murana have three goals each as well. Goalkeeper Patrick Schulte has five shutouts in 12 starts.

LAST OUTING
Dayton was upset at home 1-0 after a goal against the flow of the game by Rhode Island was lofted over the Flyer keeper. The Flyers ended their two game-winning streak Saturday.

Saint Louis won its sixth straight game in an important 4-1 victory over VCU on the road last Saturday. Becher, Klein, and Komodi each had a goal and an assist in the effort.

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Saint Louis have met 27 times previously, including twice last season, with the Billikens leading the series 17 wins to the Flyers' seven victories. Both teams won at home in 2020, with UD defeating SLU 1-0 in double overtime on March 28 this past spring.

JONES-RILEY EARNS A-10 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Junior Jaden Jones-Riley was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30 after his hat-trick performance in the season-opening win over UAB. He totaled seven points during the two-game stretch.

FLYERS THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was predicted to finish third in the A-10 in the 2021 preseason poll and received two first-place votes. The Flyers were picked behind conference favorites Fordham (six first-place votes) and Saint Louis (three votes), but ahead of Massachusetts and VCU (two votes).

ADJEI NAMED PRESEASON FIRST TEAM
The Atlantic 10 preseason all-conference teams announced as well with Dayton senior Kingsford Adjei earning All-Conference team honors. He was the lone Flyer recognized on the team from the reigning A-10 champs.

INTERNATIONAL FLAIR
Dayton historically has had a diverse team with players hailing from all over the globe. This season is no different with the Flyers having student-athletes from 10 different countries.

UP NEXT
The Flyers remain on the road for their next contest at Davidson Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.

PRESEASON SUCCESS
The Flyers were victorious in all three of their preseason games this year, outscoring opponents 10-2 during the stretch. Dayton opened the 2021 preseason with a 4-2 victory at IUPUI before hosting a pair of exhibitions at Baujan Field. UD then defeated Bellarmine 1-0, avenging a regular season loss from last season and earned a 5-0 thumping of Wabash in the preseason finale.
