DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team will close out its seven-match homestand this weekend with two Atlantic 10 contests at Frericks Center. Dayton will square off against Rhode Island at 7 p.m. on Friday and will match up against Fordham 1 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free and all volleyball matches are open to the general public.

About Dayton
Dayton (14-5, 7-0 A-10) extended its winning streak to eight with a 3-0 win over Xavier on Wednesday night. This weekend wraps up the Flyers seven-match homestand. UD's offense is keyed by senior Jamie Peterson with 4.29 kills/set (1st A-10, 25th NCAA), a .285 hitting percentage (7th A-10) and 0.55 aces/set (1st A-10, 11th NCAA) while sophomore Livie Sandt averages 8.95 assists/set (2nd A-10). On defense, freshman Alayna Yates leads the Flyer block with 1.22 blocks/set (2nd A-10) and senior Maura Collins is the team's primary passer with 3.89 digs/set (6th A-10).

Scouting Rhode Island
Rhode Island (9-12, 1-4 A-10) split its Atlantic 10 matches at home this past weekend, picking up a 3-1 win over George Mason on Friday before falling to George Washington in a five-set battle. The Rams are led by Jamie Smith with 2.38 kills/set and Grace Hammond who serves up 0.36 aces/set (5th A-10) to go with 6.43 assists/set (5th A-10). Gabrielle Shilling collects 0.90 blocks/set and Ella Ratzloff gets under 4.53 digs/set (3rd A-10).

Scouting Fordham
Fordham (5-11, 2-3 A-10) snapped a four-match skid with two conference wins over the weekend after hosting George Washington (3-0) and George Mason (3-1) in the Bronx. Whitley Moody is the Rams' top attacker with 3.58 kills/set (3rd A-10) and Megan Brzozowski is the squad's primary setter with 8.56 assists/set (3rd A-10). On the defensive side of things, Chloe Pejouan leads the league with 1.58 blocks/set and Mallory Lipski passes 4.72 digs/set (2nd A-10).

Series Stuff
Rhode Island: Dayton leads, 36-10
Dayton has won 10 straight match-ups in the all-time series against Rhode Island. The last time the Rams downed the Flyers was a 3-2 decision in Rhode Island on Oct. 12, 2013.

Fordham: Dayton leads, 41-1
Dayton has posted four straight 3-0 wins over Fordham, including in the semifinals of last season's A-10 Championship. The Rams' lone win in the series was a five-setter on Nov. 21, 1997.

RPI Rankings
In the NCAA's most recent Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2021 season (Oct. 10), Dayton ranked 53rd according to NCAA.com. Rhode Island came in at 275th and Fordham was rated 288th.

Hausfeld Court
Former Flyer Kacie Hausfeld passed away tragically in an airplane crash during her time as a Dayton Flyer. In her memory, her family made a substantial contribution to the Dayton volleyball program. That donation enabled the program to renovate Frericks Center, adding a new public address and sound system, new seating on the event level, new scoreboards and video boards and the playing surface was named "Hausfeld Court" among many other improvements to the facility.

Flyer Facts
• Tim Horsmon is in his 13th season overall, and eighth since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2021. His record at Dayton is 311-89 and his career win-loss mark sits at 487-253 in 23 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is now the program's winningest coach, surpassing R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
• Over the last 13 seasons (2009-2021), the Flyers have recorded a 158-14 (.919) mark in regular season Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2016, 2015 and 2012 and a 15-0 record in 2010. UD suffered only one conference loss in 2020, 2019, 2017, 2014, 2011 and 2009.
• Dayton made its 21st-consecutive and 24th overall appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2020. The Flyers have reached conference post-season play every year they have been a member of the A-10 except 1995 and 1999. UD holds a 31-10 record in league tournaments.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 14 times (2020, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title a league-record 14 times (2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003).
