DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Dayton men's soccer team came from behind twice to earn valuable points in a double-overtime tie at Davidson College Wednesday night.
The Flyers (5-7-3, 2-3-1 A-10) picked up an important Atlantic 10 point on the road while the Wildcats (7-5-2, 2-3-2 A-10) stay just one point ahead of UD in the standings.
GAME BREAKDOWN
- Davidson jumped out to a 1-0 lead off a corner kick in the 31st minute.
- Dayton was able to even the score in the 40th minute with a converted penalty from senior Kingsford Adjei for his fifth goal of the season.
- The Wildcats recorded 10 shots in the first half, which matched their season average for an entire game, but only put one on goal. The Flyers had six shots, half of which were on target.
- Davidson scored its second goal to take the lead back in the 57th minute.
- Just three minutes later the Flyers tied the game up once again with a goal from junior Forster Ajago, his fifth, on the through-ball from junior Andy Sanchez.
- After 90 minutes, the game was forced to overtime. It marked Dayton's fourth OT game of the season.
- Neither team was able to get the decisive goal in extra time and the contest ended in a draw.
- Adjei finished with a team-high eight shots, four on goal.
- Dayton was out-shot 17-15, but the Flyers had eight on target compared to the Wildcats' four.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"The team came out flat again on the road and we had to chase the game," said head coach
Dennis Currier. "We battled back well in the second half, but left too many chances on the field to get the win."
