WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Dayton men's soccer team blanked George Washington University on its home field Wednesday in Atlantic 10 action for a 1-0 victory.
The Flyers (5-5-2, 2-1-0 A-10) picked up a crucial three points on the road while the Colonials (3-8-1, 1-3-0 A-10) drop another game at home.
GAME RECAP
- The Flyers were able to take the initial lead in 59th minute with an own goal by the George Washington defender off the cross by Jaden Jones-Riley into the box.
- Dayton's defense held strong and fended off any GW rally.
- The Colonials outshot the Flyers 14-11 in the contest.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Marc Kouadio had a season-high six saves in the game.
- Senior midfielder Kingsford Adjei led UD with five shots, two on target.
- The Flyers earned their first true road win of the season.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"It was a great team win today," said head coach
Dennis Currier. "We put together some excellent soccer in the second half that produced the goal and were a bit unlucky to not put the game away. We defended very well the last ten minutes when GW sent extra numbers in the attack to preserve the shutout."
