Men's Soccer Faces Rhode Island At Baujan Field Saturday

The Flyers And Rams Are Tied For Fourth In The A-10 Standings

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team returns to Atlantic 10 action this Saturday at home against Rhode Island at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is looking to gain momentum in conference play after a 2-1-0 record so far in A-10 games and 5-5-2 overall. The Flyers are winless away from home this year, but are coming off an impressive 4-2 win against Massachusetts at home.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 17th year at the helm of the Flyers and the reigning Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. UD replaces just one starter from last year's team that went on to win the A-10 regular season title with a 4-1-1 conference mark.

As a team, the Flyers are averaging 1.50 goals per game and giving up 1.75  goals to opponents. Dayton is being outshot 12.9 to 15.1 each contest.

Leading the way for the Flyers is senior Kingsford Adjei with four goals and three assists. Junior transfer Forster Ajago has also slotted four goals as well as one assist with junior Jaden Jones-Riley chipping in three goals and two assists as well. Sophomore goalkeeper Marc Kouadio has 51 saves and all 12 starts between the posts.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
RHODE ISLAND

Rhode Island comes to Dayton with a 6-3-1 record on the season and 2-1 A-10 mark. The Rams are coming off of a 4-0 victory over St.Bonaventure and are 4-1-1at home this season.

Head coach Gareth Elliott is in his ninth year in Kingston, but has 12 seasons of head coaching experience.

As a team, the Rams score 1.8 goals each outing and hold opposing squads to 1.10 goal per game. Rhode Island leads their opponents in shots per game at 15.8 in comparison to 11.5

The main offensive threat for the Rams is Patrick Agyemand, who has six goals as well as three assists this season. Isak Oystese has added four goals and an assist in ten games of action. Goalkeeper Stefan Schmidt has 43 saves in 10 starts.

LAST OUTING
Dayton earned its second straight A-10 win with a 1-0 victory on the road at George Washington Wednesday. The Flyers benefited from an own goal from the Colonials in the defensive battle.

URI picked up a big 4-0 win over St. Bonaventure at home this past Saturday. The Rams scored three goals in the second half and were led by the brace from Edvin Akselsen. Rhode Island outshot St. Bonaventure 16-6 in the game.

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Rhode Island have met 26 times in series history with the Flyers earning 14 wins to the Rams' 11 victories with one tie shared. In the last match-up in 2018, UD took the 1-3 loss in Kingston.

JONES-RILEY EARNS A-10 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Junior Jaden Jones-Riley was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30 after his hat-trick performance in the season-opening win over UAB. He totaled seven points during the two-game stretch.

FLYERS THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was predicted to finish third in the A-10 in the 2021 preseason poll and received two first-place votes. The Flyers were picked behind conference favorites Fordham (six first-place votes) and Saint Louis (three votes), but ahead of Massachusetts and VCU (two votes).

ADJEI NAMED PRESEASON FIRST TEAM
The Atlantic 10 preseason all-conference teams announced as well with Dayton senior Kingsford Adjei earning All-Conference team honors. He was the lone Flyer recognized on the team from the reigning A-10 champs.

INTERNATIONAL FLAIR
Dayton historically has had a diverse team with players hailing from all over the globe. This season is no different with the Flyers having student-athletes from 10 different countries.

The Flyers continue A-10 play heading back out on the road to take on the No. 14 Saint Louis Billikens Saturday, Oct. 16. It will be a night game with kickoff at 8 p.m. ET.
