Tip-Off Is At 6 p.m. For The Flyers' First Road Game Of The Season

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team will head out on the road for the first time this season, taking on Purdue University Saturday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at Mackey Arena. The game will be streamed on BIG+.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton travels to Indiana with a 2-1 record on the year, holding wins over Alabama A&M and Toledo and a loss to Duke. The Flyers are playing their first away game of the season after going a perfect 8-0 on the road last year.

Head coach Shauna Green is in her sixth season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year 2020, her second time at UD. She earned her 100th win at Dayton in the regular season final last year.

As a team this year, Dayton is scoring 66.0 points per game and holding opponents to 60.7 points each outing. The Flyers are shooting 40.7 percent overall, 34.1 percent from three point range, and 69.2 percent from the free throw line. UD is outrebounding opposing teams by a +5.3 margin.

Dayton is led by graduate student Jenna Giacone with a team-high 19.7 points per game and coming off a career-performance with 28 points against Toledo. Sophomore guard Makira Cook is contributing 14.7 points per game as well.

SCOUTING PURDUE
Purdue is undefeated so far this year with a 3-0 record, having beaten Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, and Illinois State. The Boilermakers are 1-0 at home this year and start a two-game home stretch with the Flyers Saturday.

Head Katie Gearlds returns to her alma mater for her first season in charge of the Boilers. She was an All-American student-athlete at Purdue in 2007 and has previous coaching experience at nearby Marian University.

This season, Purdue is averaging 75.0 points per game and allowing just 65.0 points to opposing squads. The Boilers are shooting 47.1 percent from the floor, 38.6 percent from behind the arc, and 75.0 percent from the charity stripe. Purdue shoots the ball from distance well, ranking in the top 35 in three pointers made and threes per game.

Purdue is led by Madison Layden, who is averaging 17.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, and Abbey Ellis, who is adding 14.7 points and 5.0 assists each outing.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton rode a big first half to a 69-60 victory over Toledo at home on Wednesday morning. The Flyers were led by Giacone's career-high 28 points while Erin Whalen added a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
Purdue defeated Illinois State, Dayton's opponent on Dec. 5, this Wednesday by a final score of 76-64. The Boilers had three double-digit scorers in Abbey Ellis (20 points), Madison Layden (18 points), and Ra Shaya Kyle (14 points).

THE SERIES
Dayton and Purdue have met 12 times previously with the Flyers holding a slight 7-5 advantage in the series. The two teams last played eachother in 2015 in West Lafayette with the Boilers coming out on top 61-58 in a nailbiter.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
After three games, Dayton ranks 61st in the country in blocked shots and 62nd in turnovers per game. Individually, Jenna Giacone is 33rd nationally in field goal attempts and 24th in field goals made. She also ranks 50th in Division I in scoring and second in the Atlantic 10.

FLYERS FAVORITE IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to as preseason favorites after winning the A-10 regular season in 2020-21. The Flyers received 11 first-place votes and were selected ahead of Rhode Island, Fordham, Saint Louis, and VCU.

PRESEASON HONORS
The Atlantic 10 released its preseason all-conference teams and recognized four Flyers ahead of the upcoming campaign. Grad student Jenna Giacone was named First Team while fellow grad student Erin Whalen was named Second Team. Sophomore center Tenin Magassa was named to the Third Team and grad student Araion Bradshaw picked up All-Defensive Team accolades.

FLYERS DOMINATE IN EXHIBITION
The Flyers had one preseason game this year on Nov. 5 at home where they defeated IUP 83-46. Dayton had five players in double-figures scoring and shot 61.2 percent from the field, higher than any total the previous season.

BRADSHAW NAMED A-10 WOMAN OF THE YEAR NOMINEE
The Atlantic 10 Conference chose its NCAA Woman of the Year nominees and selected University of Dayton graduate student Araion Bradshaw as one of the two representatives. Bradshaw is the point guard with the women's basketball program and entering her fifth year at UD this fall. The Boston, Mass. native has helped lead the Flyers to four A-10 Championship titles. Bradshaw is a graduate student with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, master's in engineering management, and working on her master's in business management.

Off the court, she has been just as impactful. She started the Athletes Driving Change organization that is a group of minority A-10 women's basketball players focused on the mission to "promote permanent change toward equality through the voices of Atlantic 10 female athletes using a unified and inclusive platform." She earned the Social Justice Award at this year's R.U.D.Y.S. Banquet for her work on equality and education. Bradshaw is a passionate and vocal leader in the community and has represented the University with the upmost integrity.

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
