DAYTON -- After a week between games for semester exams, the University of Dayton men's basketball team will travel to Ole Miss for a Saturday matchup. Game time is 6:30 p.m. ET.
Last Sunday, the Flyers beat Virginia Tech 62-57 at UD Arena.
R.J. Blakney led the way with a career-high 19 points, including making all five of his three-point attempts (second best ever at UD).
Mustapha Amzil added 11 points.
Saturday's game will be carried by WHIO Radio, televised on the SEC Network and streamed on ESPN+. Streaming audio, video and stats will be available at DaytonFlyers.com.

• The Covid year has complicated "the clock" for college student-athletes. With that in mind, the Flyers' 12 players who are listed as freshmen or redshirt freshmen are the second -most in NCAA Division I men's basketball. Only Arizona (13) has more. Next is Air Force (11) with Marquette and Vanderbilt (10 each) behind. KenPom has UD the least experienced team in D-I.
• Dayton's incoming freshman class is ranked 21st-best in the nation.
DaRon Holmes II, a consensus Top 50 recruit, is the highest-rated prospect to ever sign with UD.
• Holmes is currently third among Division I freshmen in total dunks (19). He is behind Jalen Duren of Memphis (26) and Chet Holmgren of Gonzaga (21).

Malachi Smith was the first Flyer freshman named an in-season tournament MVP since Roosevelt Chapman was MVP of the University of Dayton Invitational in 1980. Smith leads the team in 3-pt. FG% FT% (tied), assists and steals, is second in minutes, is third in rebounding, and fourth in scoring and FG%.

R.J. Blakney was 5-for-5 from deep in the Va. Tech win. That's the second-best single-game effort in UD history, behind Shawn Haughn (8-for-8) and tying him with two other Flyers.
• Over his last five games, 53 of
Elijah Weaver's last 73 points have come in the second half.
• Dayton has depth. Ten Flyers average nine minutes or more. Nine players have had at least one game of 10 points or more. Eight average at least six points a game.
