DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team remains on the road with a quick turnaround as the Flyers go to Saint Louis Tuesday for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is red-hot despite a couple of pauses this season, winning six games in a row and going 6-0 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers are 7-1 on the season and 4-0 on the road.
Head coach
Shauna Green is in her fifth season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year last season, her second time at UD.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 65.4 points per game and holding opponents to just 53.6 points per contest. Dayton is shooting 43.2 percent overall, 32.2 percent from three, and 66.9 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers have a +10.8 rebounding margin which ranks second in the conference and 23rd nationally.
Dayton is led by redshirt senior
Erin Whalen with 13.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while fellow senior
Jenna Giacone is contributing 11.5 points per game and coming off a career-high 20-point performance Sunday.
SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
Saint Louis has had to deal with COVID pauses as well this season, playing just six games so far with a 4-2 record overall. The Billikens are 2-2 in A-10 games and 3-2 at home this year.
Head coach Lisa Stone is in her 35th season as a head coach, boasting 648 career victories. She is in her ninth season at Saint Louis.
This year, the Billikens are scoring 67.3 points per game and allowing 63.3 points to opposing teams. SLU is shooting 36.8 percent from the field, 27.5 percent from behind the arc, and 71.5 percent from the charity stripe. The Billikens have a +5.8 rebounding advantage, but are committing more turnovers.
Leading SLU is Ciaja Harbison with 15.0 points and 3.5 assists per game while Rachel Kent is chipping in 11.7 points and Myriama Smith-Traore is adding 10.5 points and 8.8 rebounds each outing.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton went to St. Bonaventure and earned a 68-51 victory over the Bonnies thanks to 21 points in the fourth, including a 9-0 run to start the quarter.
Jenna Giacone had a team-high 20 points while
Kyla Whitehead added 11 points.
Saint Louis' last game also came at St. Bonaventure on Friday with the Billikens winning 65-50. SLU held the Bonnies to just 17 points in the first half while scoring 20+ points in two of the four quarters. Brooke Flowers led the way with 19 points and 14 boards.
THE SERIES
Dayton and Saint Louis have played 43 times previously with the Flyers controlling the series at 33 wins to the Billikens 10 victories. UD won all three of last year's meetings including a 58-50 win in the A-10 Championship semifinals at UD Arena.
STATISTICAL RANKINGS
This season the Flyers rank fifth in the nation in field goal percentage defense and 15th in scoring defense. Individually,

Erin Whalen is 44th in three point field goal percentage.
WHALEN JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB IN CAREER
On Jan. 14 against Davidson, redshirt senior surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her career, two years at Dayton and two years at Vanderbilt University. She scored 19 points in the win to achieve that milestone.
MAGASSA NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman center
Tenin Magassa was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Jan. 18 after having a breakout performance with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting, seven rebounds, and five blocks in the win over Davidson. It was the first accolade for the France native on the season.
COOK NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dayton freshman
Makira Cook was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Jan. 4 after averaging 11.0 points and shooting 61.5 percent from the field. She highlighted the week with an 18-point performance against St. Bonaventure.
PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll behind conference favorites VCU and ahead of Saint Louis, Davidson, Duquesne, and Fordham. The Flyers received two first-place votes.
PRESEASON HONORS
The Atlantic 10 released its preseason all-conference teams and recognized a trio of Flyers. Redshirt senior
Erin Whalen earned First Team honors while fellow redshirt senior
Araion Bradshaw was named Third Team and All-Defensive Team. Junior
Kyla Whitehead joined Bradshaw on the Third Team as well.
SHORTENED NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
The Flyers only had two non-conference games and no exhibition contests due to COVID concerns. Dayton opened the season at Morehead State on Nov. 25Â with a victory before dropping the home opener to Akron on Dec. 6.
FLYERS IN REGULAR SEASON LEAGUE PLAY
Dayton has won 120 of its last 146 regular season Atlantic 10 games (.822), a streak that dates back to a 97-46 win over Rhode Island on Jan. 7, 2012, and includes a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play during the 2012-13 season.
THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 609 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.
OFF TO A HOT START
Dayton has found much success under Coach Green in the month of January, going 34-2 in her first five seasons as head coach of the Flyers. That includes going undefeated in four of her five seasons.
