Spartanburg, S.C. - The University of Dayton softball team dropped two games at USC Upstate Friday on opening day of the 2021 season. The Flyers are participating in the Spartans' Upstate Classic Feb. 12-13.
Dayton is now 0-2 on the season while Upstate improved to 2-0.
GAME ONE
USC Upstate 3, Dayton 2 (9)
• Sophomore Grace Gressly's solo home run in the sixth tied the game at two runs apiece eventually sending the game to extra innings
• Winning Pitcher: S. Brown (1-0) - 14 strikeouts
• Losing Pitcher: Kelsey Gumm (0-1)
GAME TWO
USC Upstate 5, Dayton 2
• Senior Abby Ehrenborg knocked out a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the third to get Dayton on the board
• Winning Pitcher: M. Brown (1-0)
• Losing Pitcher: Addy Bullis (0-1)
KEY STATS
• 2 - Ehrenborg tallied two home runs on the day for UD, collecting three RBI and eight total bases
• 1 - sophomore transfer Emily Daniel recorded her first stolen base as a Flyer; former Wright State teammate sophomore Grace Gressly knock out her first home run as a Flyer
