Women's Soccer 2-1 Comeback Over NKU Fueled By Freshmen

Rookies Mia Perri And Itala Gemelli Scored Their First Collegiate Goals

MASON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's soccer team scored two late goals to come from behind to defeat Northern Kentucky 2-1 Wednesday afternoon at Wall2Wall Indoor Soccer field. Both goals were scored by freshmen. Mia Perri scored in the 79th minute and Itala Gemelli scored the game-winner in the 86th minute; both were their first collegiate goals.

Dayton improves to 2-0-0 on the young season, while the Norse are 1-1-0.

KEY STATS
• Ā The Flyers had six shots on goal on eight shot attempts.
• Ā Fouls were fairly even with NKU called for 10, while UD had nine.
• Ā Dayton started 10 underclassmen (five freshmen and five sophomores).
• Ā  SophomoreĀ Madelyn DeweyĀ played the second half in goal. She had two saves and picked up the win.
• Ā  Of Dayton's four goals scored this season, all have been netted by freshmen. Diana Benigno and Madison Wilson scored in Dayton's 2-0 win over Bellarmine in the season opener.

KEY MOMENTS
• Ā Dayton trailed 1-0 at the half. Kailey Ivins scored in the 27th minute to give the Norse the early lead.
• Ā Perri scored her first collegiate goal on a blast up the middle at 78:25 on an assist from sophomore Marlee Taylor to even the score.
• Gemelli scored her first collegiate goal and the game-winner, also a high shot up the middle, at 85:01 on an assist from sophomore Jessica Sheldon.
