Baseball Drops Saturday Doubleheader With Xavier

Riley Tirotta Hit For The Cycle In Game One

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Xavier on Saturday at Woerner Field. UD fell in the first game 24-16 before losing a late lead in a 14-11 loss in game two.
 
The Flyers now sit at 10-18 in 2021.
 
KEY STATS
Dayton had 28 hits between the two games, with senior Riley Tirotta going 7-9 with five RBIs on the afternoon, hitting for the cycle in the first game of the series. Tirotta also extended his hitting streak to a team-high 10 straight games with hits in both contests.
 
 Graduate student Eddie Pursinger hit a home run in each game and drove in nine runs on the afternoon, with five of those coming in the second game. Junior Marcos Pujols also went 5-10, driving in five runs as well and hitting a home run, while graduate student Chris Cabrera hit his first career home run in a Dayton uniform in game one as well. The Flyers hit five home runs between the two games.
 
Graduate student Tyler Jones made his 79th career appearance in game one of the doubleheader, just two behind Brian Heitkamp for second in program history.
 
Senior Mitchell Garrity extended his own program record with his 52nd career hit by pitch in game one of the afternoon.
 
UP NEXT
The Flyers will return to action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Morehead State at Woerner Field.
 
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Based on campus and local COVID-19 protocols and capacity restrictions, Dayton home athletic events will not be open to the general public.

Limited seating is available to guests of Dayton student-athletes (names must be on a pass list for admission). Currently, visiting team fans are not permitted in/at the facility.

Additionally, attendance at Dayton home athletic events will be socially distanced and fans are required to wear masks.
