Men's Tennis Falls In A-10 Semifinals to Richmond

Flyers Finish Season At 13-6

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Dayton men's tennis team fell to third-seeded Richmond 4-1 in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals on Saturday morning at USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

"Today was a prime example of what college tennis should look like," head coach Ryan Meyer said. "Two great teams battling it out. Wish we would have been able to play the big points better, but I'm extremely proud of my guys. They showed tremendous fight and made Richmond earn the win."

The Flyers finish 13-6 on the season, snapping an eight-match winning streak for UD. Dayton opened the match dropping the doubles point to Richmond. Sophomore Georgi Mavrodiev and junior Joe DeMarco knocked off the duo of Matthew Fernandez and Alex Wernink on a tiebreak, Richmond took the first two courts and a 1-0 lead.

Dayton fought hard in singles play, taking all six flights to three sets after dropping the first set on courts one, two, four, and six. Sophomore Connor Bruce took No. 1 singles by taking the final two sets to give UD a point on the afternoon, but the Flyers were unable to continue that momentum and Richmond took the three even courts to win the match.
