PHILADELPHIA – The University of Dayton softball team entered the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championships as the No. 4 seed and upset the top-seed George Washington University in the first round on Thursday morning, 2-0.

The Flyers will now move on in the winners' bracket and face the winner of No. 2 Saint Joseph's and No. 3 Fordham at 12 p.m. Friday, May. 14.

Dayton improves its record to 20-24 on the year while GW moves to the losers' bracket with a 33-9 record.

Final Score – Dayton 2, George Washington 0
• 2 – Megan Ward laced a two-run triple down the left-field line scoring Emily Daniel and Briley Sidor in what would be the decisive play of the game.
• 2 – This was only the second loss this season to an A-10 team by George Washington, having gone 23-1 during the regular season.
• 0 – It also marked the first time the Colonials were shutout by a conference opponent all season and the first scoreless game since March 11 against Villanova.
• 8 – Dayton stranded eight GW runners in the contest.
Winning Pitcher: Addy Bullis (12-6) – 5.1 IP, zero earned runs on four hits, two walks, one strikeout
Save: Sarah Bailitz (6) – 1.2 IP, zero runs allowed on zero hits, one walk and one strikeout
Losing Pitcher: Sierra Lange (17-8) – 7.0 IP, two earned runs on five hits, zero walks and six strikeouts

UP NEXT
Dayton will face the winner of hosts Saint Joseph's and Fordham Friday at noon at the SJU Softball Field. The winner of that game moving on to the A-10 Championship game.
