Volleyball Splits Two On First Day Of Dayton Invitational

Dayton Outlasted Cincinnati, 3-2 Before Falling to No. 3 Kentucky In Straight Sets

DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team split its first two matches of the season Friday on the opening day of the 2021 Dayton Invitational. Dayton opened the day with a 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 24-26, 15-7) win over Cincinnati before falling to defending national champion and third-ranked Kentucky 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-16) in the nightcap.

Dayton is 1-1 after the first day of the season. Kentucky is 2-0 and Cincinnati ended the day at 1-1.

GAME ONE
Dayton 3, Cincinnati 2
• 14 & 15 - redshirt freshman Lexie Almodovar recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 kills and 15 digs
• 14 & 9 - redshirt sophomore Amelia Moore was just one block off a double-double with her career-high 14 kills and career-high-tying nine blocks
• 15 - redshirt senior Jamie Peterson led all attackers with 15 kills
• 20 - senior Maura Collins got under a match-high 20 digs
• 14.0 - the Flyers out-blocked the Bearcats by a margin of 14.0 to 4.0

GAME TWO
No. 3 Kentucky 3, Dayton 0
• 8 - Almodovar led the Flyer attack with eight kills
• 7 - Peterson was second on the team with seven kills

UP NEXT
The Dayton Invitation will close out with two matches on Saturday. Kentucky will square off against Cincinnati at 12 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. match-up between Dayton and Texas State. Both games will be played on campus at Frericks Center. Admission is free.
