Men's Soccer Faces Oakland On The Road Wednesday Morning

The Flyers Look To Get Back In The Win Column Against The Grizzlies

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will head back out on the road to take on Oakland University Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Rochester, Mich. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening, but inclement weather forced the move to Wednesday.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton travels to Michigan with a 3-1-1 record overall and an 0-1 road mark. The Flyers are coming off their first loss and are looking to get back in the win column at Oakland.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 17th year at the helm of the Flyers and the reigning Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. UD replaces just one starter from last year's team that went on to win the A-10 regular season title with a 4-1-1 conference mark.

As a team, the Flyers are 21st in the country in total goals and 23rd in total points, averaging 2.20 goals per game while holding opponents to 1.40 goals each outing. UD is also out-shooting opposing teams 13.6 to 13.0.

Leading the way for the Flyers is junior transfer Forster Ajago with four goals and one assist, and junior Jaden Jones-Riley with three goals and two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Marc Kouadio has made all five starts with 19 saves and one shutout.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
OAKLAND

Oakland hosts Dayton with a 1-2-1 record this year and a 1-0-0 Horizon League mark. The Golden Grizzlies are 1-1-0 at home at Oakland Soccer Field this fall as well.

Head coach Eric Pogue is in his 13th season as head coach of Oakland and 21st year overall having previously served as an assistant with the Grizzlies.

As a team, Oakland is scoring 1.00 goal per game and allowing 1.25 goals to opposing squads. The Grizzlies are being outgunned in shot attempts, giving up 17.3 per game while recording just 9.5 shots each match.

Leading the Grizzlies is Mikey Ketteman, who has a team-high two goals for four points while Dylan Borczak and Ville Aloha have both scored as well. Goalkeeper Alessio Carbone has started every game with 11 saves and two shutouts.

LAST OUTING
Dayton suffered its first loss of the season this past Saturday at Western Michigan, 3-0. The Flyers were unable to get on the scoreboard and allowed a season-high three goals to the Broncos.

Oakland earned a 2-0 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne Saturday in the Horizon League opener, the Grizzlies first win of the season. OU got a goal in each half in the conference affair.

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Oakland have played 21 times previously with the Flyers winning five and the Grizzlies winning 10 contests. The last meeting was in 2019 when UD came out on top 3-0.

JONES-RILEY EARNS A-10 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Junior Jaden Jones-Riley was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30 after his hat-trick performance in the season-opening win over UAB. He totaled seven points during the two-game stretch.

FLYERS THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was predicted to finish third in the A-10 in the 2021 preseason poll and received two first-place votes. The Flyers were picked behind conference favorites Fordham (six first-place votes) and Saint Louis (three votes), but ahead of Massachusetts and VCU (two votes).

ADJEI NAMED PRESEASON FIRST TEAM
The Atlantic 10 preseason all-conference teams announced as well with Dayton senior Kingsford Adjei earning All-Conference team honors. He was the lone Flyer recognized on the team from the reigning A-10 champs.

PRESEASON SUCCESS

Dayton opened the 2021 preseason with a 4-2 victory at IUPUI before hosting a pair of exhibitions at Baujan Field. UD then defeated Bellarmine 1-0, avenging a regular season loss from last season and earned a 5-0 thumping of Wabash in the preseason finale.
