DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team is traveling to the west coast to open Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend at George Washington and George Mason. The Flyers and Colonials will match up Friday at 7 p.m. at GW's Smith Center followed by a 5 p.m. match-up against the Patriots Saturday at GM's Recreational Athletic Complex.

About Dayton
Dayton (6-5, 0-0 A-10) is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Michigan Invitational, picking up wins over Boston College and Eastern Michigan before falling to host RV Michigan in the weekend finale. Two-time A-10 Player of the Week senior Jamie Peterson leads the conference with 4.10 kills/set to go with 0.49 aces /set (2nd A-10) to pace the Flyers' offense. On defense, sophomore Amelia Moore collects 1.13 blocks/set (4th A-10) and senior Maura Collins gets under a team-best 3.82 digs/set (6th A-10).

Scouting George Washington
George Washington (0-11, 0-0 A-10) is still searching for its first win of the season heading into conference play this weekend. GW competed in the Mountaineer Invitational last weekend, falling to host West Virginia, UMBC and Robert Morris. The Colonials are led offensively by Salem Yohannes with 2.95 kills/set (8th A-10) and Lauren LaBeck with 5.78 assists/set (7th A-10. Bella Bowman passes 4.16 digs/set (4th A-10) while also serving up a team-best 0.32 aces/set (10th A-10).

Scouting George Mason
George Mason (2-9, 0-0 A-10) is currently suffering through a nine-match losing streak after opening the season with wins over American and Howard. Most recently, Mason took Wofford to five sets Sept. 18 at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invite. Peyton Ehmke swings at a team-best .290 clip (7th A-10) and Erin Derick sets 8.46 assists/set (3rd A-10) for the Patriots. Ewelina Gacek tallies 0.44 aces/set (3rd A-10) and  Stephanie Der is the team's leading passer with 3.13 digs/set (8th A-10).

Dayton has won the last 11 meetings between these two teams. UD picked up two straight-set wins over GW during the 2019 season.

George Mason: Dayton leads, 12-0
UD has claimed straight-set wins over Mason in four of the last five meetings between the two.

In the NCAA's final Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2020 season, Dayton ranked 21st according to NCAA.com. George Washington came in at 311th and George Mason was ranked 290th.

• Tim Horsmon is in his 13th season overall, and eighth since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2021. His record at Dayton is 303-89 and his career win-loss mark sits at 479-253 in 23 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is the program's second-winningest coach behind only R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
