DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will finish up the non-conference portion of the schedule on Wednesday when the Flyers host No. 10 Kentucky at 7 p.m. The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads into the week with a 3-4-2 record overall and has struggled as of late, scoring just once in the past five games. The Flyers are 2-0-1 at home however this year.
Head coach
Dennis Currier is in his 17th year at the helm of the Flyers and the reigning Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. UD replaces just one starter from last year's team that went on to win the A-10 regular season title with a 4-1-1 conference mark.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 1.33 goals per game and giving up 1.78 goals to opposing teams. Dayton is being out-shot 15.0 to 13.4 per game as well.
Leading the way for the Flyers is junior transfer
Forster Ajago with four goals and an assist for a team-high nine points. Junior
Jaden Jones-Riley has added three goals and two assists to the effort. Sophomore goalkeeper
Marc Kouadio has 38 saves in nine starts.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
KENTUCKY
Kentucky enters the contest as the No. 10 team in the nation after going 5-0-2 to start the year. The Wildcats are 1-0-2 away from home on the season and 0-0-2 in Conference USA play. UK is coming off a double overtime draw at No. 5 Marshall and has already played A-10 foe Duquesne (W, 3-1) this year.
Head coach Johan Cedergren is in his 10th season with the Wildcats and is three-time Conference USA Coach of the Year.
As a team, UK is scoring 1.57 goals per game and stifling opposing teams defensively, giving up just 0.29 goals to opponents which ranks third in Division I.
Leading the way for the Cats is Eythor Bjorgolfsson with three goals and one assist on the year and Luke Andrews with two goals and one assist as well. Goalkeeper Jan Hoffelner has six starts and 11 saves in five shutouts.
LAST OUTING
Dayton opened up the Atlantic 10 season with a 2-0 loss on the road at VCU, who is receiving votes in the Top 25 poll. The Fleyrs were unable to get on the scoresheet for the second straight game.
Kentucky battled No. 5 Marshall to a 0-0 double overtime draw on the road this past Saturday. Neither team was able to get the decisive goal in a top 10 match-up.
SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and UK have played three times previously with the Flyers holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. The last meeting took place back in 2012 with UD coming out on top 4-3 at home.
JONES-RILEY EARNS A-10 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Junior
Jaden Jones-Riley was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30 after his hat-trick performance in the season-opening win over UAB. He totaled seven points during the two-game stretch.
FLYERS THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was predicted to finish third in the A-10 in the 2021 preseason poll and received two first-place votes. The Flyers were picked behind conference favorites Fordham (six first-place votes) and Saint Louis (three votes), but ahead of Massachusetts and VCU (two votes).

The Atlantic 10 preseason all-conference teams announced as well with Dayton senior
Kingsford Adjei earning All-Conference team honors. He was the lone Flyer recognized on the team from the reigning A-10 champs.
INTERNATIONAL FLAIR
Dayton historically has had a diverse team with players hailing from all over the globe. This season is no different with the Flyers having student-athletes from 10 different countries.
UP NEXT
The Flyers return to A-10 play this Saturday at home against Massachusetts. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.
