Men’s Soccer Defeated By No. 10 Kentucky

The Flyers Scored In The Second Half To Make It Close

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team faced their second Top 10 team in three games with a 3-1 loss to No. 10 Kentucky Wednesday night.

The Flyers (3-5-2) were able to get on the scoresheet, but the Wildcats (6-0-2) just had too much firepower.

GAME RECAP
  • The Flyers trailed after a goal by the Wildcats in the 12th minute.
  • Just four minutes later, Kentucky doubled its advantage.
  • Dayton was able to climb back in the game in the second half with a goal by junior Eren Elbustu in the 71st minute.
  • Kentucky ended the Flyer rally attempt with its third goal at the 76 minute mark.
  • Dayton was out-shot 15-6 in the game.
  • Andy Sanchez recorded the assist for the Flyers.

COACH'S COMMENTS
"We are facing a top 10 team in the country and we made some elementary mistakes," said head coach Dennis Currier. "In the first half we didn't play, but in the second half the guys put up a really good fight. We had a lot of grit to us. It was a difference in the first 25 minutes we had them on their heels. We got the goal, got the momentum, but we just had a letdown there on the play that led to the third goal. Overall, I thought the second period was good. Just the amount of growing. We have a very difficult schedule, but it's good for us to play teams like that."

UP NEXT
  • The Flyers return to conference play this Saturday at home against Massachusetts.
