DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team will host two matches at Frericks Center this weekend as part of the Flyer-Raider Invitational co-hosted by Wright State Sept. 10-11. In addition to playing host to Wright State and Central Michigan, Dayton will also square off against Illinois State in McLin Gym at Wright State.

About Dayton
Dayton (2-3) is coming off two losses at No. 2 Wisconsin this past week and is looking to get back into the win column on Friday at home against Wright State. The Flyers' offense is led by senior Jamie Peterson with 3.17 kills/set and sophomore Livie Sandt with 5.33 assists/set. On the defensive side, senior Maura Collins gets under a team-best 4.11 digs/set and sophomore Amelia Moore leads the team's block with 1.17 blocks/set.

Scouting Wright State
Wright State (4-2) hosted the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational Sept. 3-4, winning two of its three matches. Megan Alders is the team's leading attacker with 3.83 kills/set while Lainey Stephenson averages a team-high 9.39 assists/set. Defensively Nyssa Baker records 0.96 blocks/set and Jenna Story passes 5.39 digs/set.

Scouting Illinois State
Illinois State (2-4) also went 2-1 last week at its Red & White Invitational with wins over Ohio and UIC, before falling to then-25th-ranked Marquette in straight sets. The Redbirds are led by Tamara Otene with 3.65 kills/set and Kait Weimerskirch with 4.43 digs/set while Katelyn Lefler serves as the team's primary setter with 9.32 assists/set.

Scouting Central Michigan
Central Michigan (4-2) claimed three wins last week at its home tournament, the Chippewa Invitational, over North Dakota, Butler and Youngstown State. Savannah Thompson is the team's leading attacker with 4.24 kills/set while Aly Gurtiza passes 5.86 digs/set. At the net, Maddie Whitfield tallies 1.00 blocks/set to pace the Chippewas.

Series Stuff
Wright State: Dayton leads, 29-28
The Flyers and Raiders last squared off on March 16, 2021 at Wright State with UD claiming a hard-fought 3-2 win over WSU.

Illinois State: Illinois State leads, 5-4
Despite trailing in the all-time series, Dayton has won four of the last five meetings between the Redbirds and Flyers. Most recently, UD and ISU matched up at the 2019 Ohio State Buckeye Invitational and Dayton picked up a 3-2 win.

Central Michigan: Tied, 1-1
The last time Dayton and Central Michigan met was Sept. 14, 1991 at the Northern Illinois Invitational. The Flyers notched a 3-2 win over the Chippewas.

RPI Rankings
In the NCAA's final Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2020 season, Dayton ranked 21st according to NCAA.com. Wright State came in at 17th, Illinois State was ranked 41st and Central Michigan was 147th.

Hausfeld Court
Former Flyer Kacie Hausfeld passed away tragically in an airplane crash during her time as a Dayton Flyer. In her memory, her family made a substantial contribution to the Dayton volleyball program. That donation enabled the program to renovate Frericks Center, adding a new public address and sound system, new seating on the event level, new scoreboards and video boards and the playing surface was named "Hausfeld Court" among many other improvements to the facility.

Flyer Facts
• Tim Horsmon is in his 13th season overall, and eighth since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2021. His record at Dayton is 299-87 and his career win-loss mark sits at 475-251 in 23 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is the program's second-winningest coach behind only R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
• Over the last 12 seasons (2009-2020), the Flyers have recorded a 151-14 (.915) mark in regular season Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2016, 2015 and 2012 and a 15-0 record in 2010. UD suffered only one conference loss in 2020, 2019, 2017, 2014, 2011 and 2009.
• Dayton made its 21st-consecutive and 24th overall appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2020. The Flyers have reached conference post-season play every year they have been a member of the A-10 except 1995 and 1999. UD holds a 31-10 record in league tournaments.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 14 times (2020, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title a league-record 14 times (2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003).
• In the program's 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, Dayton has reached the Second Round eight times and the Flyers hold an 8-15 all-time record in NCAA tourney matches.
• With two wins at the 2014 Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational, Dayton surpassed the 1,000-win mark as a program to become just the 13th NCAA DI team to attain that level of success. The Flyers currently rank 12th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,169-604 (.659) over 52 seasons (1970).
• The Flyers finished the 2020 season with a 14-2 overall record and an 8-1 Atlantic 10 mark, finishing in first place in regular-season league play. 2020 was the program's 42nd winning season.

Last Time Out
Dayton was in Madison, Wisconsin, last week for two matches against No. 2 Wisconsin. The Badgers claimed back-to-back 3-0 wins over the Flyers as senior Jamie Peterson led UD with 3.67 kills/set for the weekend.

Nearing 300
Dayton head coach Tim Horsmon currently has 299 wins at the helm of the Flyer program between his two stints (13 total seasons). Horsmon collected 128 wins between 2003 and 2007 and has 171 wins over 2014-present. He is the second-winningest Dayton coach, behind UD's first head coach R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins (1970-79).
