AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team went on the road at the University of Massachusetts Wednesday and picked up a hard-fought 69-60 victory in Atlantic 10 play.
The Flyers (13-3, 4-0 A-10) remain unbeaten in league play while the Minutewomen (14-4, 2-2 A-10) fall to .500.

st Quarter: Dayton 13, UMass 8
- It was a slow start offensively for both teams with neither team able to convert in the opening two minutes.
- Once they got things go, both teams traded buckets back-and-forth as the score was even 6-6 at the midway point in the opening quarter.
- Out of the media timeout, defense was able to step up forcing multiple Minutewomen turnovers.
- A physical first quarter ended with a three from graduate student Erin Whalen to put UD up five.
- Between the two teams, there were 15 turnovers in the first quarter. The Flyers did have 8-0 second chance point advantage though.

nd Quarter: Dayton 31, UMass 20
- Senior Kyla Whitehead carried over the momentum from the first quarter with a nice layup off the feed from sophomore Tenin Magassa.
- Dayton pushed the margin to seven at 17-10 in the opening three minutes before UMass closed the gap to four.
- At the media break, the Flyers held a 21-13 advantage after a nice drive by sophomore Makira Cook and feed to redshirt junior Maliya Perry for the layup.
- Fouls started to pile up for the post players of UMass and Dayton reached the bonus with 2:34 to go in the quarter and the Flyers led by double-digits.
- UD shot 36.4 percent in the first half while holding UMass to 28.6 percent.
- Graduate student Jenna Giacone had a team-high eight points while Whalen had seven points.

rd Quarter: Dayton 53, UMass 40
- UMass struck first in the second half to try to get something going early on, cutting the margin to single digits.
- Dayton was forced to call a timeout amidst a 9-2 run with 7:49 on the clock as the Minutewomen made it a seven-point game.
- Magassa stepped up big for the Flyers with six straight points, giving her eight for the quarter.
- Whalen drilled a huge three with 4:16 to play, making UMass call a timeout as UD led by 11 once again. She joined Magassa with double-digits in the game.
- Only Whalen and Magassa scored in the third for the Flyers with 12 points and 10 points respectively.

th Quarter: Dayton 69, UMass 60
- The fourth quarter was delayed for five minutes due to a shot clock malfunction.
- UMass hit a couple of quick threes to put momentum back in their favor in the opening three minutes, making it a nine-point game.
- By the media timeout, the score was an eight-point margin at 57-49 with 4:55 to go as UD was on a 3:02 drought.
- Whitehead hit a pair of free throws with 1:12 to play to put the Flyers back up 10 as UMass was running out of time.
