Men's Tennis Hosts Xavier Friday Night In Home Opener

The Match Is Set For 7 P.M. At South Regency Tennis Center In Miamisburg

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis team will host Xavier in the first home match of 2022 for the Flyers on Friday at 7 p.m. at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg.

"Whenever we play Xavier it's always a war," head coach Ryan Meyer said. "They've improved a lot since last year, but so have we. I anticipate great tennis and look forward to the challenge."

The Flyers enter the match 0-3 after dropping matches at Kentucky and Louisville over the past week. Dayton will now return home to South Regency, where UD went 11-0 in 2021 and have won 12 straight matches.

Freshman Eric Perkowski picked up his first collegiate spring dual victory against the Cardinals on Tuesday, knocking off Alex Wesbrooks in No. 6 singles in three sets.

Senior Will Harper also went three sets before falling at Louisville, and he sits one singles victory behind P.J. Miller to crack the Top 25 in the history of the program. That would make him the second active Flyer on the list, with fellow senior Steven Karl having the tenth most wins of all-time.

Xavier sits at 0-1 this season after falling 6-1 to Ohio State on Wednesday. The Musketeers are highlighted by graduate student Diego Nava, who transferred from Loyola Marymount and notched a win over Ohio State's Cannon Kingsley, who is ranked No. 21 in singles in Division I.

The Musketeers have also added three freshmen to their team to go alongside graduate student Brett Winters, who competed in the top singles flight in eight matches last season.

The Musketeers lead the series between the two programs, but the Flyers have won the last three matches against Xavier, including a 7-0 victory in Cincinnati in 2021.
