No. 19 Men’s Soccer Earns 4-0 Victory Over George Mason

Dayton Scored Three Goals In The Second Half

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team defended its home field Saturday in Atlantic 10 action against George Mason University.

The Flyers (8-0-1, 2-0-1 A-10) controlled the game from start to finish while the Patriots (2-7-0, 1-2 A-10) drop their second A-10 game.

KEY MOMENT
  • Right before halftime – Dayton scored the opening goal with just eight seconds to go in the first half to take the lead.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • 44:52 – Senior Manny Day headed home the cross from senior Logan Brown just before halftime. It was his team-leading fifth goal on the season and Brown's first assist.
  • 46:43 – Junior Sam Owusu scored the rebound from freshman Basit Umar. This is Owusu's first goal of the season.
  • 55:07 – Senior Jaden Jones-Riley rips a 30-yard goal. His first of the season as well.
  • 78:44 – Senior Xavier Zengue on the assist from senior Forster Ajago.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayton out-shot George Mason 15-6, and put nine of its attempts on target.
  • Umar and Melto Quiah led the way with three shots each.
  • There 18 Flyers that saw action on Saturday.
  • Goalkeeper Dario Caetano recorded his fifth shutout of the season and had two saves.
  • Freshman defender Martin Jalle make his debut for the Flyers.
  • There were two cautions, one for each team.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"I thought we controlled the tempo of the game very well tonight," said head coach Dennis Currier. "We had some troubles breaking their low block in the first half, but once we got the first goal, it opened up a lot more space on the field to attack."

  • The Flyers will head back out on the road to take on St. Bonaventure next Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m.
