AKRON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team returned to the road once again, heading to the University of Akron Sunday afternoon where the Flyers fell 85-69.
The Flyers (0-3) still look for their first win of the season while the Zips (1-1) earned their first victory.

nd half – After leading at halftime, Dayton was outscored by Akron 49-27 in the final 20 minutes.
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 21, Akron 18
- Dayton got the first three points of the game, all from the free throw line while the Flyer defense came out strong.
- The Zips didn't score their first points until the 7:22 mark with a made three.
- Senior Sydney Freeman scored five-straight points for Dayton, including a big three to put UD up 10-3.
- Akron managed to hit a trio of threes of their own though and made it a 12-11 contest at the media break.
- A transition three by junior Taisiya Kozlova on the dish by Freeman put UD up six, 17-11.
- The 21 points by the Flyers was the most in a quarter this season. Seven different Flyers scored in the opening 10 minutes as well.
- Dayton forced eight Akron turnovers and converted those into eight points.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 42, Akron 36
- The pace slowed down to start the second quarter before a corner three from redshirt junior Destiny Bohanon woke up the Flyers.
- Akron managed to tie the game up at 26-26 by the 6:28 mark thanks to a couple of free throws.
- At the media break, the Flyers held a narrow 30-28 lead over the Zips.
- Akron answered with four straight free throws to take a 32-30 lead.
- Kozlova hit a clutch three with less than a minute to go to put UD back on top 42-36.
- Dayton shot 53.3 percent overall and 55.6 percent from three point range in the first half while Akron shot 42.3 percent from the field and went 11-of-13 from the free throw line.
- Jones had a team-high nine points while Freeman added eight points, both season highs.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 54, Akron 62
- Jones became the first Flyer to reach double-digit points in the contest early in the second half.
- Dayton was forced to call a timeout at the 7:43 mark after a three by Akron cut the margin to just one point, 46-45. The regrouping worked though as Kozlova drilled a three out of the break.
- Out of the media break, Akron was able to put a 6-0 run together and took a 53-52 lead by the 4:11 mark, forcing a Dayton timeout, its second of the game.
- The Zips took their biggest lead of the game at six, 60-54 and under a minute to go in the third.
- Dayton faced an eight-point deficit going into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
4th Quarter: Dayton 69, Akron 83
- Akron made things worse for Dayton to start the fourth, hitting a three and making it a double-digit lead.
- The Zips continued to get to the free throw line to add to the margin.
- Midway through the fourth, Akron was up 70-54 with few signs of slowing down.
- The Flyers were held scoreless in the fourth until the 4:12 mark with a three from Bohanon. That ended a 22-0 run over 9:18 by the Zips.
- UD relied on the free throw line with 10 straight points from the charity stripe over a two-minute stretch. A three by sophomore Shannon Wheeler ended that streak.

Anyssa Jones had a career-high nine points in the first half alone. She finished with a team-high 18 points.

Shannon Wheeler chipped in a career-high 11 points while
Maliya Perry added 10 points.

36 to 31 – The Flyers out-rebounded the Zips, 36-31.
