Women's Basketball Remains On Road At Fordham Saturday

Tip-off Is At 2 p.m. For A Crucial A-10 Match-up

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team remains on the road for a contest at Fordham University Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. in Bronx, N.Y. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the game with an overall record of 20-4 and sit atop the Atlantic 10 standings by a half game with an 11-1 league mark. The Flyers are 8-1 in away games this year with their last road loss coming on Dec. 8 at Florida.

Head coach Shauna Green is in her sixth season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year 2020, her second time at UD. She ranks second all-time in program history in career wins.

As a team this year, Dayton is averaging 67.6 points per game and holding opposing teams to 55.9 points each outing. The Flyers are shooting 40.6 percent overall, 34.8 percent from three point range, and 67.5 percent from the free throw line. UD has a +7.5 rebounding margin and +1.5 turnover margin.

Dayton is led by sophomore Makira Cook with 15.4 points per game while graduate students Erin Whalen and Jenna Giacone are chipping in 13.6 points and 12.5 points per game respectively. Senior Kyla Whitehead has been a bigger than the stats show despite averaging 7.4 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING FORDHAM
Fordham hosts Dayton with a 16-7 record on the year and 7-4 A-10 mark. The Rams are 10-1 at home this season, but coming off a two-game losing streak.

Head coach Stephanie Gaitley is the most experienced coach in the A-10 with over 600 wins and 36 years as a head coach.

This season, Fordham is scoring 62.0 points per game and giving up just 57.0 points to opponents. The Rams are shooting 39.0 percent from the field, 30.5 percent from behind the arc, and 74.8 percent from the charity stripe. FU does have positive rebounding and turnover ratios to go off of.

Leading the way for the Rams is the A-10's leading scorer Anna DeWolfe at 18.9 points per game and a team-high 56 threes. Asiah Dingle is adding 13.8 points and 5.3 rebounds each outing with Kendell Heremaia contributing 11.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. She also made 11 three's last outing against UMass.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton went to A-10 leaders Rhode Island Wednesday night and earned a 47-37 victory over the Rams thanks to a strong defensive effort. The Flyers held them to just 15 points in the first half, a season low. Araion Bradshaw and Jenna Giacone both had 10 points.
Fordham was also on the road Wednesday at UMass and came up short in a 60-57 loss to the Minutewomen. The Rams had a shot throughout the game, but was outscored 17-6 in the final quarter.

THE SERIES
Dayton and Fordham have met 34 times previously with the Flyers winning 26 contests to the Rams' eight victories. UD won the matchup earlier this season at home 52-48 on Jan. 23. In that meeting, Tenin Magassa had a double-double while Erin Whalen had a team-high 13 points. FU has won the last two contests in the Bronx however, with Dayton's last win on the road coming on Jan. 17, 2018.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
Dayton ranks 13th in the country in defensive rebounding and 16th in rebounds per game. The Flyers are also 22nd in field goal percentage defense and 23rd in turnovers per game. Individually, Araion Bradshaw ranks eighth in the nation in assist to turnover ratio while Tenin Magasssa is 29th in blocked shots.

OFF TO A HOT START
Dayton has found much success under Coach Green in the month of January, going 42-2 in her six seasons as head coach of the Flyers. That includes going undefeated in five of her first six seasons.

THREE POINTS OF EXCELLENCE
Dayton has hit at least one three-point shot in 644 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 2, 2001, the longest streak in the Atlantic 10 Conference and one of the top streaks in the nation. The Flyers made a program-record 15 three-point field goals against Buffalo in the Connecticut World Vision Classic on Nov. 25, 2011. Dayton tied the record with 15 vs. Wright State on Nov. 28, 2012.

Since the 2009-10 season, Dayton is 184-22 (.891) when scoring 70 or more points, including 11-1 in 2016-17. During the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, the Flyers only lost one game per season when scoring at least 70 points, and dropped only two games in 2019-20 when reaching that mark.
