BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Dayton women's basketball team stayed on the road for its second straight game in a tough environment and earned a 48-47 victory over Fordham University.
The Flyers (21-4, 12-1 A-10) remain in the Atlantic 10 lead while the Rams (16-8, 7-5 A-10) played better than their record states.

th quarter: 1.9 seconds – Fordham had a chance to win the game with just under two seconds in the fourth, but the Dayton defense held strong for the win.
1st Quarter: Dayton 12, Fordham 11
- Dayton struck first with a three from graduate student Jenna Giacone as the shot clock was winding down.
- As was expected, it was a low-scoring affair early on.
- Junior Mariah Perez had back-to-back baskets in the paint to give UD a 7-4 lead.
- Giacone added a pair of pull-up jumpers at the free throw line out of the media break and put the Flyers up 11-6 with under three to play.
- Fordham hit an off-balanced jumper at the buzzer to make it a one-point game.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 28, Fordham 15
- The Flyers and Rams traded just one basket apiece in the opening four minutes of the second quarter.
- At the media timeout, the score was 18-13 after an and-one from senior Kyla Whitehead.
- The Flyers added three more points out of the break as the Rams faced a four-plus minute drought.
- Dayton got the margin to double-digits at 26-15 at the 1:10 mark on a layup from sophomore Tenin Magassa.
- UD held Fordham to just four points in the quarter while riding a 14-2 run over 6:50.
- The Flyers held their opponent to just 15 points in the half, once again the lowest total for the Rams in a half this season.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 39, Fordham 28
- The Flyers added to their lead to start the third, but the Rams answered with a three to make it a 31-18 contest by the 7:00 mark.
- Midway through the quarter, the score remained 31-18.
- The teams combined for 2-for-16 shooting and six fouls in the first half of the third.
- At the 2:54 mark, Giacone hit a corner three as the pace started to ramp up.
- Dayton called a timeout with 2:09 on the clock as Fordham surged with a 5-0 run over :44.
- There were 15 fouls called between the two teams in the third quarter alone.
4th Quarter: Dayton 48, Fordham 47
- The Rams cut the margin to single digits to start the fourth quarter with a drive to the basket on the opening possession.
- With the double-digit lead however, the Flyers slowed the pace down over the next few minutes.
- At the media timeout, UD held a 46-35 advantage.
- The Rams hit a three with 4:20 to play and made it an eight-point game.
- Both of Dayton's guards fouled out with four minutes to play.
- Fordham went on a 12-0 run to cut it out just two points, 46-44 with 1:14 to go.
- The teams then traded buckets to make it 48-47 with :34 to play and Flyers ball.
- Fordham had the ball with :15 to go and down one. Giacone got a steal and the Rams were forced to foul.
- UD was unable to convert and Fordham had 1.9 seconds down one, 48-47. The defense was able to hold on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
15 – The Flyers held the Rams to just 15 points in the first half. It was the second straight game they held their opponent to their lowest point total for a half this season.
18.8% and 31.3% - Dayton held Fordham to 18.8 percent from three and 31.3 percent from the free throw line, a season-low.
