Women's Tennis To Host A Pair Of Matches This Weekend

The Flyers Will Play Ball State On Friday At Noon And Ohio Northern Sunday At 11 A.M.

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's tennis team will host Ball State on Friday at noon and Ohio Northern on Sunday at 11 a.m. at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg. It will be the first match for the Flyers since taking down Butler on Feb. 6.
 
Dayton sits at 5-4 on the season and the team has won three out of the last four matches. The last time the Flyers competed, they won 4-3 against Butler and junior Elizabeth Hamilton earned Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week after clinching the match against the Bulldogs.
 
Hamilton sits tied for first with seven overall wins this season and is 6-2 in dual match play in 2022. The junior is tied with freshman Neena Katauskas for the team lead in singles victories, while junior Erica Wojcikiewicz leads the team with seven doubles victories to this point in the season.
 
Ball State enters the match at 4-2 this season after splitting a pair of matches last weekend against Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee. Emma Peeler is currently 3-1 in No. 1 singles play and the Cardinals have not dropped a match at the third singles flight.
 
Amy Kaplan and Mariya Polishchuk each lead the team with five dual match victories so far this season, with Polishchuk sitting at 5-0 this season between No. 2 and No. 3 singles.
 
Ohio Northern enters the weekend at 8-2 this season, but have lost each of the last two matches. The Polar Bears most recently played against Transylvania in Kentucky, falling last Sunday 7-2.
 
Katie O'Connell leads the Polar Bears with 11 wins this season, including sporting a 9-1 record in dual matches this season. O'Connell is one of four on Ohio Northern with at least 10 wins, with Regan Landis, Miranda Wills, and Julianne Sheldon each having 10 wins so far in 2021-22.
 
Dayton is 3-7 against Ball State, with Ball State taking the most recent match on January 21, 2019. The Flyers fell 7-0 in Muncie, but UD won the last match in Dayton against the Cardinals 4-3 back in 2018. 

The Flyers are 4-0 all-time against Ohio Northern, with the last win taking place as a 6-1 victory at Dayton in 2012.
