MIAMISBURG, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's tennis team took down Butler 4-3 at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg on Sunday afternoon. The Flyers took the doubles point and three singles flights to secure their fifth win of the season.

"This win against Butler is one of the best wins our team has had in a number of years," head coach
Erica Echko said. "No. 3 doubles winning in a tiebreaker set the tone and everyone battled in singles. We are becoming more mentally tough each match. Neena beat an excellent player at No. 2 and Claire fought back after dropping the second set 6-1. Elizabeth continues to improve and clinched the match in another long two-set match."

Dayton moves back over .500 with the win, sitting at 5-4 in 2022, while Butler falls to 1-4 with the loss.

The Flyers opened the match by taking a close doubles point against the Bulldogs. Junior

Laura Greb opened with a win in No. 1 doubles 6-3 over Natalie Boesing and Delaney Schurhamer. Butler notched a win on Court Two, leaving it up to the third doubles flight.

Neena Katauskas took a decisive deuce point and then clinched the doubles point in the tiebreak to take the set 7-6 from Norah Balthazor and Veronika Bruetting.

With UD up 1-0 heading into singles play, the Flyers carried that momentum, taking three out of six singles flights from the Bulldogs.

Butler took the point on Court Four, but Katauskas made it 2-1 Dayton with a win over Delaney Schurhamer on Court Two. The freshman won 6-3, 7-5 to take a straight-set win for the Flyers.

Claire Ghidotti picked up a win in three sets in No. 6 singles to extend the lead to 3-1. Ghidotti took down Veronika Bruetting 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 to put the Flyers one point away from clinching.

Elizabeth Hamilton improved to 6-2 in dual match play, winning her fourth match in a row to clinch the match for Dayton. Hamilton won in straight sets against Sara Linn in No. 3 singles 7-6, 6-4 to give the Flyers a fourth point.

The Flyers will next play on Saturday, Feb. 19 against Ashland at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg.
