WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Dayton baseball team fell on the road at Purdue on Tuesday afternoon 11-2 at Alexander Field in West Lafayette. Sophomore 
Parker Bard struck out five in three innings on the mound in the loss.
 
Dayton falls to 7-6 with the loss, while Purdue remains undefeated, improving to 15-0 in 2022. Senior 
Jay Curtis led the Flyers with two hits in the contest, while junior 
Ben Jones picked up a double against the Boilermakers.
 
ON THE MOUND
Junior 
Anthony Hattrup started the game for the Flyers, pitching the first three innings and allowing just one hit and striking out two. Hattrup gave up two runs in his time on the mound before giving way to senior 
Bryce Hellgeth. Hellgeth opened the fourth inning, allowing four runs on four hits.
 
Graduate student 
Andrew Zapka entered for Hellgeth and pitched the fifth, allowing just one hit and no earned runs. Graduate student 
Nick Meyer made his season debut, striking out the side to get the Flyers through five innings.
 
Bard finished the game for Dayton, pitching the last three innings, giving up just one run on two hits with the five strikeouts.
 
SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 1: (1-0 Boilermakers)
Hattrup led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk and a stolen base. A line out to right field advanced the runner to third and a sacrifice fly gave the game its first run.
 
Top 3: (1-1 Tied)
Junior 
Alex Neff was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the third and advanced to second on a passed ball. Jones walked and a wild pitch put two Flyers into scoring position and Neff scored on a sacrifice fly by junior 
Keagan Calero.
 
Bottom 3: (2-1 Boilermakers)
A one-out hit by pitch put a baserunner on for Purdue. A stolen base and a throwing error put a runner on third and a double to left field scored and put Dayton down 2-1.
 
Bottom 4: (10-1 Boilermakers)
Hellgeth allowed four straight hits to start the bottom of the fourth making the score 4-1 Purdue. An error by Calero at third followed by another base hit made it 5-1 and a wild pitch on a strikeout extended the deficit to five. Back-to-back walks scored two more runs and a sacrifice fly gave Purdue their eighth run of the game. The final two runs of the inning scored on another error by the Flyers.
 
Bottom 6: (11-1 Boilermakers)
Bard retired the first two batters in the sixth before a single, passed ball, and RBI double made it an 11-1 game.
 
Top 9: (11-2 Boilermakers)
Redshirt freshman 
Andrew Casey was hit by a pitch to lead off. Freshman 
David Pedanou drew a one-out walk to put two on and freshman 
Jacob Veczko walked to load the bases. Freshman 
Mason Dobie drove in the second run of the game for Dayton on a base hit up the middle, finalizing the score at 11-2.
 
UP NEXT
The Flyers will take on Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Mastodon Field in Fort Wayne.
