BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Dayton baseball team beat Fordham 10-4 on Thursday afternoon behind a complete game from junior
Ryan Steinhauer. It marked the first complete game by a Dayton pitcher since
Hunter Wolfe against Seton Hall on Feb. 23, 2019.
The Flyers scored seven runs in the third inning to break the game open. Junior
Keagan Calero went 3-for-4 on the afternoon with three runs scored, three stolen bases, and two RBIs, and senior
Marcos Pujols picked up a pair of hits for his sixth multi-hit game of the season.
Dayton improves to 14-15 this season and 3-4 in Atlantic 10 play. Fordham falls to 6-24 and 1-6 against A-10 opponents.
ON THE MOUND
Steinhauer kept Fordham off the board in eight of his nine innings on the mound and only gave up two hits outside of the four-run fifth inning. The lefty threw just 31 pitches through the first four innings and ended up 119 pitches in the win over the Rams.
The Saline, Mich., native struck out 10 and allowed just three earned runs on five hits, walking just two, marking the second time this season Steinhauer has racked up at least 10 strikeouts.

Top 2: (1-0 Flyers)
Calero picked up a base hit to start the inning and would steal second. He stole third as well and scored on a throwing error by the Fordham shortstop, giving Dayton an early lead.
Top 3: (8-0 Flyers)
Senior
Jake Silverstein led off the inning with a base hit up the middle. A walk by junior
Ben Jones moved him to second and he would score on a base hit by Pujols. Graduate student
Henry Strmecki walked to load the bases and senior
Jay Curtis walked as well, making it 3-0 Dayton. Calero drove in Pujols from third with a base hit of his own and two batters later redshirt freshman
Andrew Casey was hit by a pitch to make it 5-0. Freshman
Matt Maloney extended the lead to seven with a base hit to right field, scoring two more runs and Silverstein capped off the inning with a RBI sacrifice bunt to plate the eighth run of the game for the Flyers.
Bottom 5: (8-4 Flyers)
Steinhauer struck out the first batter of the inning before a single, walk, and home run cut the lead to 8-3. A wild pitch on a strikeout followed by an error on the throw down to first put a runner on second and a base hit to center field gave Steinhauer an unearned run and an 8-4 game.
Top 7: (10-4 Flyers)
Strmecki led off the inning with a base hit through the left side. A hit and run advanced Strmecki to second and a wild pitch put a runner on third and one out. Calero drove in his second run of the day with a base hit to left center and junior
Jose Martinez doubled off the wall scoring Calero and finalizing the score at 10-4.
