NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 has released the bracket for this season's Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship, with the University of Dayton earning the fifth seed. That mark is the program's highest seeding since 2002, when the Flyers fell in the semifinals to Richmond.
Â
This season, Dayton will take on Saint Joseph's, who earned the 12-seed on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Â
The Flyers finished the regular season with a 9-12 record, winning two of their four Atlantic 10 matches. Dayton saw three different student-athletes finish with at least 10 singles victories, the highest total since 2018.
Â
Freshman
Neena Katauskas led the way for the Flyers, winning 13 matches during the regular season. Fellow freshman
Laura Greb won 12 matches on the year, and junior
Elizabeth Hamilton won 10 matches. Katauskas also won six of her last nine decisions individually.
Â
Junior
Erica Wojcikiewicz has also moved up the career leaderboards this season. With her eight wins in 2022, Wojcikiewicz is now tied for 23rd in program history with 22 career singles victories.
Â
Saint Joseph's will enter the A-10 Championship at 6-14 this season. The Hawks are 0-6 against conference opponents, dropping matches to Richmond, Rhode Island, Duquesne, George Mason,
George Washington, and UMass.
Â
Over the weekend, Saint Joseph's split two matches, falling at Towson 6-1 before beating the University of the Sciences 7-0 on Sunday.
Â
The Hawks have had a consistent lineup throughout the end of the regular season, with Amanda Nava playing at the top singles flight. The graduate student is a three-time All-Conference member, being named to the A-10 First Team in 2018 and 2019. Nava has paired with Stow Weiss at No. 1 doubles, with Weiss also serving at No. 2 singles this season.
Â
Emily Elliott has played at three singles, with Sophia Amato, Fabiana Tort-Umpierre, and Ireland Amato rounding out the top six singles flights for the Hawks.
Â
This will be the first time these two teams have played since the 2019 season, when Dayton took down Saint Joseph's 4-1 on March 3, 2019 in Dayton.
Zoe Woods,
Kelly Pleiman, and
Natalie Allen all picked up singles victories in the win.
Â
It marks the first time these two will meet in the A-10 Championship since 2001, when Dayton won 4-3 in the opening round match.
